Did Somebody Just Blink?

For the record, I'm not a huge fan of tariffs and much prefer free trade. Not gonna hold my breath here, but it appears the door to rational trade policy discussions may have opened...even if only slightly. Israel is dropping their tariffs on the US. Hoping we can put more of the tariff nonsense behind us.

I regularly read your posts and find much I disagree with, especially regarding US foreign policy, but this I very much agree with. If the U.S. continues down this tariff road things will not end well ... Free trade and ideally free movement of people. Building walls is no solution and does not bring security and economic freedom.
@constance Free trade is a sound objective. But understand what's really at stake. Nearly 25% of Canada's GDP depends on exports to the US. Roughly 1% of the US's GDP depends on exports to Canada. Despite the economic sabre rattling, the trade war (which I'd rather not see happen) will not impact the US economy much. So...is Doug Ford serious?

@constance So should the US just go back to allowing every country put tariffs on it and not put tariffs on them? Most countries have close to double the tariffs that the US charges - if the US charges any. Why is this unfairness acceptable and expected by the whole world? Look at the chart wildbill83 posted. Does that look fair to the US?

"free trade" exists nowhere but in people's imaginations

the majority of tariffs that Trump placed on other countries are half what they already put on us; the smart leaders already figured out that they can't win a trade war with us and have reduced theirs to the 10% reciprocal rate...

The beauty of it all is that those who refuse to accept reciprocity will soon start losing all their business to those who do, effectively locking themselves out of global markets...

@wildbill83

Patience is a virtue. The parasites will soon have no place to latch onto as Trump's Pest Control tariffs smoke them out.
@PatKirby yep...just give it time

@BizSuitStacy canada is getting charged 100% by china..
not a peep from the tds tariff cult..

and china somehow is designated a 'developing' nation. so its not subject to any of the climate crap $$ it forces onto the rest of us thru its downright ownership and influence of all these globalist orgs...

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Not tards. Turds!!!! 🤣🤣🤣

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout China was designated a "developing nation" about 30 years ago under Bill Clinton. NOW China has acheived UPPER MIDDLE CLASS status as a nation, yet they are still whining and crying like little babies that they aren't big enough or strong enough to stand on their own two feet.

RECIPROCAL. It works!!!

Additionally, anyone buying oil from or selling staples to Iran will face a tariff of 25% or more by the US until they cease these activities.
@TexChik that's a good move to quiet the terrorists

Likely, those corrupt politicians who allowed other countries an unfair trade advantage were receiving kickbacks from those who were allowed to hike their tariffs on the US. Once again, Trump is disrupting the flow of taxpayer money into their pockets.
@TexChik That sounds about right. Politicians are easily bought off.
