Presidential approval ratings.

The Gallop poll listing the average presidential approval rating going back to Bush senior.
And a recent poll giving Trumps current administration a 47.7% means only Bush and son have made it out the 40’s.
Why do you think the general approval for the office of the president is so often below 50%?
I mean, you can’t please all of the people all of the time, but I’d like to think opinion polls are not dictated entirely by political tribalism.

The Bushes had enormous rah rah America war efforts to boost their approval. I think Dubya went from 90% to 25%.

Otherwise, only a third of the electorate really end up voting in the sitting President and most of the job of the President is maintaining a status quo. Usually a status quo that overall worsens. Same reason why congress is so widely detested.

@CountScrofula At least presidents can only serve the majority of a decade at best , not 1/4 or 1/2 centuries like other politicos.

Not entirely by tribalism. Here in the Northeast we generally hate everyone when asked.

I'd love to see the same stats broken out by region of the country. I bet you guys down south rate everyone 10-20 points higher than we do regardless of party.

I believe voter apathy isn't figured into that.

Democrats lost because of voter apathy in both Trump administrations.

There's a difference between voter apathy and unwillingness to vote.

Could be how the question is asked. But 1 think people want more these days, and are more cynical.
Straylight · 31-35, F
@trollslayer True. Seems the more easily information is accessible, the harder people are to please.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
George W Bush had surprisingly high ratings
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Longpatrol I was thinking the same thing . Maybe the poll was taken right after desert storm or 9/11?
Straylight · 31-35, F
@Longpatrol @AthrillatheHunt These are averages. Post 9/11 probably boosted Jr’s numbers.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Straylight well slick Willy left him a great economy so I guess it makes sense. Plus he had his babysitter / syth lord Chaney to help him.

Democrat polls...

@Straylight So what do you think of Idris Elba & would you do him
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Buyers remorse from people who think other people will solve their problems ?
Elessar · 26-30, M
If the current admin is at 47.7% after all the shìt they've pulled internationally besides domestically, the country is truly cooked tbh
trollslayer · 46-50, M
@Elessar No, humanity is cooked.

My rationale for why he won was because people were mostly wanting a change economically. So if this doesn’t sway them the other way, it truly means they wanted an authoritarian government motivated by spite.
