Why do you think the general approval for the office of the president is so often below 50%? I mean, you can’t please all of the people all of the time, but I’d like to think opinion polls are not dictated entirely by political tribalism.
The Bushes had enormous rah rah America war efforts to boost their approval. I think Dubya went from 90% to 25%.
Otherwise, only a third of the electorate really end up voting in the sitting President and most of the job of the President is maintaining a status quo. Usually a status quo that overall worsens. Same reason why congress is so widely detested.
Not entirely by tribalism. Here in the Northeast we generally hate everyone when asked.
I'd love to see the same stats broken out by region of the country. I bet you guys down south rate everyone 10-20 points higher than we do regardless of party.
My rationale for why he won was because people were mostly wanting a change economically. So if this doesn’t sway them the other way, it truly means they wanted an authoritarian government motivated by spite.
