CNN Forced to Issue Correction to Trump Fact-Check
In yet another embarrassing turn of events for CNN, the network was forced to issue a correction Wednesday after falsely challenging President Donald Trump’s assertion about millions in taxpayer dollars spent on transgender hormone experiments on mice during the Biden administration.
The controversy began when Trump claimed the federal government under former President Joe Biden had allocated $8.2 million for “gender affirming” hormone treatments in mice through National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding.
CNN’s Deidre McPhillips swiftly disputed this statement, insisting the experiments were conducted only on monkeys and cost merely $500,000. However, CNN’s fact-check itself proved to be inaccurate, as pointed out by the White House in a clear rebuke to the news organization.
“Under the Biden Administration, the National Institutes of Health doled out millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded grants for institutions across the country to perform transgender experiments on mice,” the White House stated, before providing detailed examples of what they described as “egregious spending.”
CNN was compelled to update their original article following the White House clarification, changing the wording from “Trump falsely claimed” to “This claim needs context.”
The Post Millennial (TPM) noted that the network added a correction acknowledging their error: “An earlier version of this item incorrectly characterized as false Trump’s claim about federal money being spent for ‘making mice transgender.'”
