Trump's deal with Zelensky: surrender rare earth minerals or lose Starlink.

The art of the deal is about leverage: give me what I want or I break your arm. Trump said in early February that he wanted to strike a deal with Ukraine involving access to rare earth minerals in exchange for continued U.S. aid.

The deal reportedly sought a 50% stake in Ukraine's natural resources, including critical minerals, oil, and gas. The United States has threatened to cut off Ukraine's access to Starlink satellite internet terminals if Kyiv does not reach a deal with the U.S.

Starlink internet terminals play a crucial role in securing communications in the war in Ukraine. Ukraine said that approximately 42,000 terminals were in operation across the military, hospitals, businesses, and aid organizations. Loss of Starlink access would be devastating for Ukraine.

Checkmate.

@sree251 asks
Is there any other kind of protection
Yes indeed. Mutual protection treaties. Look up NATO for example.

@ElwoodBlues
Actually all your conservative heroes were big fans of mutual protection; NATO, SEATO, etc. What about your hero tRump? He's no conservative, he's a revanchist.

Trump is an entrepreneur, a capitalist at heart, and a show businessman. He has transformed politics into popular entertainment. Are we having fun?
@sree251 Nice attempt at changing the subject. Conservative presidents have entered into many long-lasting mutual protection treaties. Why don't you just cede the point; you know it's true.

Trump is not a conservative president. He is not even a politician in the strict sense of that word. He has no interest in geopolitical organizations. He is just a dumbass American oligarch who deals with every situation in terms of Monopoly

And since when does the US government own Starlink? Oh Right. Musk owns the government..😷

Yes, of course there other kinds of protection, dip-shitte! It's called "empathy".
But of course, where you come from that word isn't used much, right?

Even my local bank wants security in case I default or die
sree251 · 41-45, M
@MarineBob Why would you bank want security? Do you have money in the bank or does your bank have money in you?
As near as I can tell the whole thing is just theatre. Because Zelensky cannot deliver anyway. The mines and miners are almost exclusively in regions Kiev has had no control over in a decade at this point.

I agree. Zelensky cannot deliver. It's just a threat to shut down Starlink and force an end to the conflict.

Trump has always played by mafia extortionist rules, so why would Trump's behavior be any different with any country that had any business dealings at all involving the US government or the US military? Trump is a mobster and there's no arguing that fact.

If Ukraine had been a member of NATO, none of this would be happening from Trump because Ukraine would have already paid their annual NATO membership dues of 2 or 3% GDP and would therefore be owing NATO nothing extra for their military services.

But having said that, if Ukraine had already become a member of NATO prior to Russia's invasion of Ukraine which Ukraine currently is not, then Russia wouldn't have invaded Ukraine in the first place and we wouldn't be having this conversation now.

Ukraine is stuck between a rock and a hard place because they never made a move to become a member of NATO prior to Putin's invasion, but suddenly learned the benefits of having club membership the hard way. Ukraine was never part of NATO despite Russia sitting on Ukraine's doorstep, yet the whole NATO community came to Ukraine's aid despite Ukraine not having paid a penny into the support NATO offers their membership community.

What now? How does Ukraine pay for all that military support? Probably through the mining of rare minerals from their country instead of paying cash for 'a la carte' NATO military services, would be my guess.

Then why are you here chatting about politics?

I am not Jewish. I am not woke, and this is the clue. Therefore, I am what?

I don't know, what are you? Do you know for sure? Perhaps you should consult with a mirror?
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
You are so pompously sure that Trump is King. The 'war' was started by Russia in 2014 and then re-started again by Russia more recently.

All because Putin wants to pull Ukraine back into the USSR.

trump needs to back off or he is going to get embarrassed again. He tried to tell a big lie about the invasion being Ukraine’s fault until the Republican Senators broke his arm.

@sree251 don't worry your tiny mind over it.

@Richard65 I'm not surprised at all. Putin owns a good slice of Trumps American real estate, once you join the corporate shell company dots..😷

@sree251 It was in the news, and the crime is blackmailing a country that already has to defend itself to a much bigger country. Turn on the news, you might learn some things

I do turn on the news, both the fake cable news media (CNN, NBC, CBS, BBC, etc) and alternate media (Rumble, Telegram, Youtube, Twitter, etc). What are your news sources?

Maybe you would have credibility if you could provide a reliable link. And something that isn't CNN or MSLSD.
@Reason10 You are just whining because you don't want to hear anything you disagree with. You use memes and Fox Noise as sources so you have no room to talk.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Reason10 To be fair to both sides, there isn not a news link based out of America I currently regard as reliable. A.P and Reuters and both internationals that still have credibility.. And the White House shuts them out..😷
Vin53 · M
@Reason10 cite an example of MSNBC lying to the public and I’ll present one of Fox News. Deal?
