LARGEST U.S. Steel producer supports Trump tariffs

THE ART OF THE DEAL

'America First': Largest steel producer in US announces support of Trump tariffs

FIRST ON FOX: The CEO of the largest steel producer in the U.S., Nucor Corp., endorsed President Donald Trump's tariffs on China, Canada and Mexico, Fox News Digital learned.

"Nucor applauds the first steps taken by President Trump in his America First Trade Agenda," Leon J. Topalian, the chair, president and CEO Nucor Corp., wrote in a statement dated Friday that was obtained by Fox News Digital. "We look forward to working with President Trump to enforce our trade laws and strengthen American manufacturing!"

The subject line of the letter reads, "Presidential Executive Orders on Canada, Mexico, and the People’s Republic of China."

The company's CEO recently joined CNBC's Jim Cramer and celebrated Trump's then-upcoming tariffs as tools to end "currency manipulation" and the "subsidization" of steel coming to the U.S. from abroad.

"We saw the memo last Monday on tariffs and what they're going to do," Topalian said Tuesday. "And I think they're going to be far-reaching, and I think they're going to be very broad to, again, stop the illegal dumping, the manipulation, currency manipulation and subsidization of steels coming into the shores of the U.S."

I remember when the Democrats BEGGED Reagan to do the same thing in the 80s to save Bethlehem Steel from foreign importers ripping off this country and violating trade law. His refusal almost made him out to be a libertarian.

Trump saves MORE American jobs and holds the world accountable for its attempts to rip us off.

In Germany in the 1930s,
the Nazis bitterly opposed the Social Democrats;
the Nazis bitterly opposed the Socialists;
the Nazis bitterly opposed the Trade Unionists;
and the Nazis bitterly opposed the Communists.

When I say "bitterly opposed" it means the Nazis sent brownshirt thugs to disrupt rallies and fight in the streets against their political opponents. The Nazis were a reactionary party reacting against the left wing in Germany at the time. The Nazis built their platform on racism, nationalism, and fear of the foreign.

Actions speak louder than words, and NAZI actions were anti-socialist, destroying unions and privatizing industry. Need details?

On May 2, 1933, Adolf Hitler’s storm troopers occupied all trade union headquarters across Germany, and union leaders were arrested and put in prison or concentration camps. Many were beaten and tortured. All of the unions’ funds – in other words, the workers’ money – were confiscated. Former union officials were put on blacklists, preventing them from finding work.

The Great Depression had spurred increased state ownership in most Western capitalist countries. This also took place in Germany during the last years of the Weimar Republic.[41] However, after the Nazis took power, industries were privatized en masse. Several banks, shipyards, railway lines, shipping lines, welfare organizations, and more were privatized.[42] The Nazi government took the stance that enterprises should be in private hands wherever possible.[43] State ownership was to be avoided unless it was absolutely necessary for rearmament or the war effort, and even in those cases "the Reich often insisted on the inclusion in the contract of an option clause according to which the private firm operating the plant was entitled to purchase it."[43]

In short: Hitler hated unions and loved privately owned industry - the polar opposite of a socialist!!!
@Reason10 Denying the widely recorded historical facts only makes you look sillier than before🤣😂

@Reason10 80 years of historical research and actual NSDAP policy are reliable.

I understand your desire for strong leadership that firmly addresses international challenges. It's important to recognize that effective foreign policy requires a balance between assertiveness and strategic diplomacy. While a tough stance can deter adversaries, it must be complemented by thoughtful engagement to build alliances and maintain global stability. Overemphasis on aggression without consideration of diplomatic nuances can lead to unintended consequences, including strained alliances and escalated conflicts. Therefore, while strength is essential, it should be exercised judiciously within a comprehensive strategy that advances national interests and upholds international order.
Wow, Leon J. Topalian - the chair, president and CEO of Nucor Corp - must be really pissed off that tRump "paused" the tariffs on both Mexico and Canada in exchange for some face-saving gestures from those nations. Leon J. Topalian just lost all the protectionism he had been touting!!

What really happened is that the US stock markets started to go into free-fall when they opened Monday morning, and tRump knew his tariffs bluffs had failed.

Mexico gave tRump the same 10,000 troops he had given Biden in 2021, while Trudeau offered a similar low cost gesture about fentanyl, almost none of which flows thru Canada.

Oh, and on the subject of Fenanyl, almost all of it is carried by US citizens thru standard checkpoints. Details and references available upon request.

@Reason10 says
Socialism is the government ownership and control of all the means of production. Socialism is anti private property and anti nuclear family.

Pretty much describes the German Nazis and the American DemoNazis. A mirror image.

DEAD WRONG!! As usual!!

I question how being able to produce high quality steel at a lower price is classified as "ripping off '" a country. And its not dumping if the export company is making money.😷

Idiotic statements like that convince most of us here that you're a teenager, (from an underperforming blue state public school) and you know NOTHING.

Binding tariffs, and applying them equally to all trading partners (most-favoured-nation treatment, or MFN) are key to the smooth flow of trade in goods. The WTO agreements uphold the principles, but they also allow exceptions — in some circumstances. Three of these issues are:

1. actions taken against dumping (selling at an unfairly low price)

2 subsidies and special “countervailing” duties to offset the subsidies

3. emergency measures to limit imports temporarily, designed to “safeguard” domestic industries.

Free market libertarians (at least the intelligent ones of the 90s) had opposed the World Trade Organization for it moving the US away from free market principles. But for now, the WTO is law. PRESIDENT TRUMP is the first president to actually hold our trading partners accountable to the law, and he doesn't care if you uneducated goose steppers like it or not.

It's international law. In PRESIDENT TRUMP's first term, he gave America the greatest economy of the 21st Century with tariff threats to China, (who had been ripping this country off for decades.)

Find someone with an education to read this and simplify it and 'splain it to you.

@Reason10 Normally I would pick apart your comments one at a time... But in this case, you so full of it that the only thing left would be your punctuation. both the US steel and coal industries are so full of tax breaks, subsidies and "incentives" that nowhere is the production cost of the ouput represented in the selling price. The industry itself is dumping its entire production into the market..Nothing would be mined or manufactured if it had to survive on genuine profits.. So its a bit rich for anyone in America to claim others are dumping..😷

Tallahassee, Fla., May 7, 2024 – Today, U.S. News & World Report announced that Florida is again ranked #1 in the nation for education. The publication’s Best State ranking is based on a combination of strong performances in higher education and K-12 metrics.

“Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, Florida again ranks number one in education,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “By focusing on core academic subjects and excellence in the classroom, Florida stands ahead of the rest.”

Also announced today, Florida ranked #1 in the Parent Power Index by the Center for Education Reform. The assessment focuses on alternative pathways and educational choices that parents and students have access to beyond traditional public schools.

Any idiot can produce graphics. Florida has the best schools in the country.
@Reason10 DUUUDE!! You got PLAYED!!
Your quote is from the Florida website. Go to the actual USNews website and you'll see:

Higher Education . . . #1
Pre-K-12 . . . . . . . . . #10

https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/florida
AND, that #1 rating is based debt at graduation from state colleges.You got PLAYED!!

BTW, Anybody can produce text. Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Jersey have the best schools in the country as measured by NAEP.

A major indicator of Florida's failing schools is the vast shortage of teachers, even though Gov DeSantis lowered eligibility requirements such that not every teacher even needs a college degree.

Poor Florida just can't get teachers, SAD!!

Surely they are two names that were rejected from the RoboCop script due to them being a bit too unbelievable....
Well, you people have your leadership and the ownership is the leadership! Carry on! Seems perfect for you!

You really have got it bad.... You want cheap products and a high standard of living...
Reason10 · 70-79, M
@Convivial do you honestly think all your electronics are going to be made cheaper in America than in China?

Apple used FoxConn to make the Iphone. That was practically SLAVE LABOR.

You DemoKKKrats never change. Slavery is just fine with you.

Frankly, the tariffs will equalize the trade wars, the use of slavery, the use of dumping.

This shows just how far off the extreme left wing you goose steppers have gone.

In the 80s, left wingers were BEGGING Reagan to enact tariffs in order to save America jobs. Reagan was more of a free trader.

PRESIDENT TRUMP is governing from the CENTER and using tariffs to protect American jobs.

Only a hard left winger would have a problem with protecting American manufacturing jobs. Then again, all you left wingers are on welfare anyway. None of you work for a living.
Convivial · 26-30, F
@Reason10 first off, I agree with you about the conditions Chinese workers operate under.. And no I don't believe America can make them as cheap .. But knowing all this you stop buy them
Reason10 · 70-79, M
@Convivial This is where I realize just how young and inexperienced most of the far left posters are here. They really have no concept of history. (Present company excepted.)

I learned this from friends who work in international trade, who travel to the far east.

Most of China, (as in most of the population) are illiterate and starving to death. The few large cities in China attract only those who climb to the top of the intellectual heap. Same with India. That's why most Chinese and Indian immigrants are WAY up the intellectual food chain.

How is China able to out produce American workers? Trump said it best: STEALING our intellectual property. Those zipper heads couldn't even imagine creating the kind of industrial innovations that Americans churn out almost every week. Their ONLY way of competing is slave labor, and dumping their crap on our markets.

Did the Chinese invent the smart phone? Did they even invent the COMPUTER? For that matter, can anyone name a Chinese automobile company?

Tariffs equalize the situation. Since Americans would have to pay a lot more for Chinese goods (and since American ingenuity created the manufacturing jobs in the first place,) I'm having trouble seeing the down side of tariffs. More Americans are employed. More money comes into the Treasury from those tariffs. The American worker can afford more, so there's less workers quitting and going on welfare.

Corporate tax cuts keep American manufacturers from spending billions of dollars relocating factories to the far east. So again, I'm having a tough time finding a down side to American workers having better job security, maybe even being able to make higher wages. That is known as an expansion of the economy.

Inflation? It is only caused by GOVERNMENT flooding the money markets with newly printed dollars without any expansion of the economy. Adolf Biden shrank the economy and flooded the money market with dollars, which created the worst inflation of all time.
