'America First': Largest steel producer in US announces support of Trump tariffs

FIRST ON FOX: The CEO of the largest steel producer in the U.S., Nucor Corp., endorsed President Donald Trump's tariffs on China, Canada and Mexico, Fox News Digital learned.

"Nucor applauds the first steps taken by President Trump in his America First Trade Agenda," Leon J. Topalian, the chair, president and CEO Nucor Corp., wrote in a statement dated Friday that was obtained by Fox News Digital. "We look forward to working with President Trump to enforce our trade laws and strengthen American manufacturing!"

The subject line of the letter reads, "Presidential Executive Orders on Canada, Mexico, and the People’s Republic of China."

The company's CEO recently joined CNBC's Jim Cramer and celebrated Trump's then-upcoming tariffs as tools to end "currency manipulation" and the "subsidization" of steel coming to the U.S. from abroad.

"We saw the memo last Monday on tariffs and what they're going to do," Topalian said Tuesday. "And I think they're going to be far-reaching, and I think they're going to be very broad to, again, stop the illegal dumping, the manipulation, currency manipulation and subsidization of steels coming into the shores of the U.S."

I remember when the Democrats BEGGED Reagan to do the same thing in the 80s to save Bethlehem Steel from foreign importers ripping off this country and violating trade law. His refusal almost made him out to be a libertarian.

Trump saves MORE American jobs and holds the world accountable for its attempts to rip us off.

@Reason10 do you honestly think all your electronics are going to be made cheaper in America than in China?

Apple used FoxConn to make the Iphone. That was practically SLAVE LABOR.

You DemoKKKrats never change. Slavery is just fine with you.

Frankly, the tariffs will equalize the trade wars, the use of slavery, the use of dumping.

This shows just how far off the extreme left wing you goose steppers have gone.

In the 80s, left wingers were BEGGING Reagan to enact tariffs in order to save America jobs. Reagan was more of a free trader.

PRESIDENT TRUMP is governing from the CENTER and using tariffs to protect American jobs.

Only a hard left winger would have a problem with protecting American manufacturing jobs. Then again, all you left wingers are on welfare anyway. None of you work for a living.

@Reason10 first off, I agree with you about the conditions Chinese workers operate under.. And no I don't believe America can make them as cheap .. But knowing all this you stop buy them

@Convivial This is where I realize just how young and inexperienced most of the far left posters are here. They really have no concept of history. (Present company excepted.)

I learned this from friends who work in international trade, who travel to the far east.

Most of China, (as in most of the population) are illiterate and starving to death. The few large cities in China attract only those who climb to the top of the intellectual heap. Same with India. That's why most Chinese and Indian immigrants are WAY up the intellectual food chain.

How is China able to out produce American workers? Trump said it best: STEALING our intellectual property. Those zipper heads couldn't even imagine creating the kind of industrial innovations that Americans churn out almost every week. Their ONLY way of competing is slave labor, and dumping their crap on our markets.

Did the Chinese invent the smart phone? Did they even invent the COMPUTER? For that matter, can anyone name a Chinese automobile company?

Tariffs equalize the situation. Since Americans would have to pay a lot more for Chinese goods (and since American ingenuity created the manufacturing jobs in the first place,) I'm having trouble seeing the down side of tariffs. More Americans are employed. More money comes into the Treasury from those tariffs. The American worker can afford more, so there's less workers quitting and going on welfare.

Corporate tax cuts keep American manufacturers from spending billions of dollars relocating factories to the far east. So again, I'm having a tough time finding a down side to American workers having better job security, maybe even being able to make higher wages. That is known as an expansion of the economy.

Inflation? It is only caused by GOVERNMENT flooding the money markets with newly printed dollars without any expansion of the economy. Adolf Biden shrank the economy and flooded the money market with dollars, which created the worst inflation of all time.
