First transgender woman elected to congress

Congratulations to Sarah McBride the first transgender woman to be elected to the House of Representatives. She will be representing Delaware. I'm so glad this happened. It is a small step forward. Of course, she will have to deal with bigotry and prejudice from small-minded, backward people.

Good for her.

All I can say is I am glad I live where I live. My MLA is a trans man and literally nobody cares. In fact probably alot of people have no idea because again, nobody cares.

They are more concerned with doing things for people like making birth control free at the point of sale and ditto with insulin.

Meanwhile in the "land of the free" people live in fear of anyone different and diabetics are dying because they are forced to ration insulin because some oligarch needs a new Lambo.
@Thrust There is a reason why that sort of thing is a stereotype about red states. Red states also fight to keep child marriage legal too.

I think you mean a man pretending to be a woman.
James25 · 61-69, M
@Baremine I understand what you are saying. But I disagree. The very essence of life is to change who you are to become who you want to be.
Baremine · 70-79, C
@James25 can't change the DNA. Born male always male no matter what you remove or add. Same thing for women.
James25 · 61-69, M
@Baremine Without knowing it, you actually proved my point. It is within the DNA that these kinds of changes are occurring. Within the DNA there were certain changes that occurred that created a predisposition towards identifying with the opposite sex. Therefore these changes will manifest within the person's brain chemistry.

They already won’t let her use the women’s restroom. I wonder how the bigot men will feel about her using theirs.
specman · 51-55, M
@trollslayer ok.

What would be ideal would be them having their own bathroom.
James25 · 61-69, M
@specman Yes, that would solve a lot of the problems. But it would not solve the bigotry and prejudice against them. It would persist regardless of any solution because they don't want them to exist.

@trollslayer I think you'd find that most biological women wouldn't feel confortable sharing the ladies toilets with a trans woman. It's not right or wrong, it's just an understandable viewpoint.

As long as this person was elected because they do a good job I'm ok with this. Having said that it is very difficult to quantify when a politician does a good job.
James25 · 61-69, M
@GeniUs I think it is actually very easy to quantify. Are they actually helping and benefiting their constituency. That is how you would measure them doing a good job.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@James25 Yes but it is difficult to evaluate the big picture accurately if I may use the example of PM Blair (UK) and this was at the time of Clinton who also likes to blow his trumpet about the good times he brought to the US. They both claimed that there was unprecedented growth during their administrations but this was reflected worldwide so it was unlikely that their policies had caused it. I'm going to drop Clinton out of the equation now but Blair's legacy, was a massive increase in public spending and debt that has never been recovered and there was also almost unilateral fraud of public funds by MPs (the elected) expenses but this was waved away with the destruction of all expense information.
TLDR it's usually very difficult to quantify when a politician does a good job down to the many external factors influencing them.

She’s a lot more of a lady than that scag Mace.
James25 · 61-69, M
@TheShanachie you are right about that

@specman No I do not think I am a woman. I just don't have a problem with someone wanting to be a woman. So what. That's their business. Why do you care if they want to be a woman? What's it to you?
specman · 51-55, M
@James25 I care when I am supposed to recognize that a man is a woman, biological males using women’s bathroom’s, male’s being allowed to violate women’s spaces and male’s in female sports.
