If Trump actually follows through on his plans, it will crash the US economy

20% tariffs would cause massive inflation and shortages of goods.

Deporting ten million people would create a labour shortage.

People who voted for him will need to hope that he was lying about his two signature policies.

Deporting millions of migrants is what has to happen if America voted for it. They did vote for it. Immigration was the most important issue to Republican voters.

You are right about tariffs. 20% tariffs on imports to US would drive costs up. Trump will not go through with it.

@SW-User He really doesn't have to do any of it. He'll just say he's done it, and / or blame the Democrats / the "Deep State" and his supporters will believe him. Hopefully he just works on his golf handicap.

@22Michelle The Deep State will try to stop him. It is the Deep State turning presidents into dictators. Soon, people all over the West are going to understand that dictators are not as bad as they were told. They already do understand this in America.

There are already signs of this with neocon appointments to his administration. What happened to "drain the swamp"?!

@22Michelle We need more deep staters like these two competent dei folks, right?

@SW-User Why would he not go through with the tariffs? It is the easiest way of rewarding his corporate supporters.

Deportation of 10m people with due process of law, while Mr Elon is proposing cuts of $2trn to federal budgets . . good luck with that!

@SunshineGirl You used to be a civil servant, a government employee. It makes sense you would not support less government spending. There are too many things the US government is paying for, and it is time for them to look at what they need and what they don't need. We can't have everything in the hands of government. It has made America less free and it costs too much.

@22Michelle What is competence to you? How is Donald Trump incompetent?

@SunshineGirl The tariff proposal is Trump's way of showing he prioritizes America in his dealings with other countries. He will try to negotiate more for America, but he will get rid of the 20% tariffs in his proposal.

How expensive are deportations? It will certainly save money when America does not have to accommodate large numbers of migrants.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@SW-User The cost to the taxpayer of expelling 10m migrants will run into billions, even before the economic damage is taken into account. The global trade war will cost billions in price inflation and lost economic opportunity. Trump will no doubt find it necessary to compensate those worst hit with tax dollars. Nothing in his plans suggests smaller government, which makes Musk's claim all the more ridiculous.
SW-User
@SunshineGirl Trump isn't going to increase tariffs by 20%, so we can forget about that.

When the government gets rid of things it does not need, it saves money! This means that deportations are possible and they can be afforded. If we look at America's future, they will have more money if they have fewer migrants. Americans are paying billions of dollars in the border crisis.

Like how he had to bail out U.S. soybean farmers during his last term @SunshineGirl

@sunsporter1649I have no idea who is in the picture, but I do know there's no "deep state".
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@SW-User So why does he keep banging on about it?

Americans are paying billions trying to keep migrants out and to remove those already in. Those who have gone undetected and are working illegally are net economic contributors through the labour they sell (cheaply) and the dollars they spend.
