I don't get conservatives...particularly American conservatives.

American conservatives: Claim to not trust government, prefer freedom to make their own decisions without government approval.

Also American conservatives: Trump "jump off a bridge"

Conservative "Which bridge sir, and what should I wear for my swan dive".

Weak minded people are all in for a strong man type leader.
Freedom to these people is nothing more than permission to hate and spew ugliness.
Once upon a time in America, we had fiscal conservatives, social conservatives and other folks like segregationists (racial conservatives), but these days, they all seem to have hitched, along with sociopaths, anarchists, crony capitalists, libertarians, fascists, neo-Nazis, and others, onto Trump, and the idea that they'll somehow profit by going along with him, hating and seeking revenge on "others," especially "liberals."

They tend to want their own "freedoms" at the expense of others, but it really seems like selfishness and contempt for others is more of the central message.

For example, they're peachy keen on locking up, roughing up, and deporting others without due process, but they whine like hell when their own rights are perceived to be threatened.

@MistyCee I am betting Jack is one of those that believes every person that has died that even heard of the Clintons were murdered by Bill and Hillary. The conspiracy theory has been around since the OJ Simpson trial if not longer.

"Individualism" is a myth as it would require collective thinking to have any substance
justanothername · 56-60, M
@Guitarman123 Collective thinking is not something that conservatives are known for.
Conservatives would rather agree in unison to a very narrow set of rules.
@justanothername Because identical red trucker hats are the definition of independence.

If you really want to learn about conservatives, read Our Bill of Rights and the Constitution
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Well, what you are missing is, the use of the term conservative doesn't mean what it used to mean. So, the label has been claimed and the belief system and the behaviour that goes along with it are, by and large, something entirely different from what it used to be.
@MarkPaul Actually it does. This blindly follow the leader mentality has been a staple of conservatives for generations.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Well, you can pretty much say that about any political leaning. It starts with an ideology that binds a group of people together whether that be conservative, progressive, or flat earth.

The problem with conservatives today is they have stopped being conservative while retaining the label. They are no longer about efficient government, moderated spending, and freedom. Instead, they support government overreach and intervention in personal lives, deficit spending that is recklessly "live-in-the-moment" oriented, and authoritarian/fascist. That is markedly different from what it once was.

If you paid taxes and “ affordable healthcare”, maybe you’d know why conservatives want less government involved.

It’s called taxation without representation.

Get someone to read history books to you then maybe you’ll understand

Those are Right Wing Extremists. Not Conservatives.

@MarmeeMarch Another totally pointless lashing out from you again. Predictable.
