Well, what you are missing is, the use of the term conservative doesn't mean what it used to mean. So, the label has been claimed and the belief system and the behaviour that goes along with it are, by and large, something entirely different from what it used to be.

@MarkPaul Actually it does. This blindly follow the leader mentality has been a staple of conservatives for generations.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Well, you can pretty much say that about any political leaning. It starts with an ideology that binds a group of people together whether that be conservative, progressive, or flat earth.
The problem with conservatives today is they have stopped being conservative while retaining the label. They are no longer about efficient government, moderated spending, and freedom. Instead, they support government overreach and intervention in personal lives, deficit spending that is recklessly "live-in-the-moment" oriented, and authoritarian/fascist. That is markedly different from what it once was.
