Trump to Use 1978 Law to Dismantle Notorious Venezuelan Gang

According to the New York Post, Trump’s strategy centers on invoking a little-known law from 1798 to expedite the deportation of members of the notorious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua and other criminal organizations comprised of illegal immigrants.

The former president’s proposal, dubbed “Operation Aurora,” takes its name from recent law enforcement efforts in Aurora, Colorado, where local authorities have been grappling with the presence of Tren de Aragua members. Trump’s plan seeks to elevate this local initiative to a national scale, leveraging federal resources to identify, apprehend, and deport gang members across the country.

At the heart of Trump’s strategy is the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, a law that grants the president broad powers to detain and deport non-citizens from countries with which the United States is at war. According to the New York Post, Trump intends to use this centuries-old legislation as a legal foundation for his aggressive deportation efforts, arguing that the presence of these criminal gangs constitutes a form of hostile action against the United States.
