In the U.K. Labour and Conservative parties have a party platform all members must adhere to. In the U.S. Democrats and Republicans don't have a distinct party platform. There are divisions within the parties, liberal Republicans, conservative Democrats, etc.

Well, I think comparisons are easier...we generally pick the one that is not the worst.
