The UK has gone mad

20 months in prison for a social media post.
6 months for killing a kid with a machete.
It's pretty bad to release violent prisoners to make room for petty crime, but this comparison isn't fair.

The social media post guy was sentenced to 20 months. It's yet to be seen whether he has to finish all that if the prison capacity remains an issue. As we don't know how long he'll sit for, we can only compare sentences. That was also 20 months for being an accomplice in a machete murder. The actual murderer got 110 months and is not being released after only 6.

It's not good, but not nearly as bad as you're implying here.
@NerdyPotatoThis doesn't look like "petty crime" to me, and I'm sure you'd feel differently if you had family members barricaded in the stairwell of what they believe to be a burning building.

This guy incited that event in the riot.

@HootyTheNightOwl ok, that's pretty severe as well indeed.
@NerdyPotato There were children in there... it's not just all single men who are housed in hotels - like the right want us to believe.

They slept in the woods the night after the attack.

They don't need this trauma on top of whatever they've already been through on the journey to get here. On the face of it, the riots have more than likely caused more harm than good because these people will likely need therapy now as a result of what happened to them.

The wait for therapy is around 2 years before the riots.

Im commenting a non white British person . Any killing is abhorrent and should be dealt with accordngly. The logic usually applied to a crime in any country is on the basis of victims or potential victims. Postings false info or inciting riots on social media is akin to leading the burning of the " witches" back in the day. One person could harm hundreds if not stopped. Else 100s could be harmed which is what happend.
Unfortunately the system is broken and lives don't seem to worth much these days.
@Londonguy23 Yet the muslim males in grooming gangs that are attacking and heinously sexually violating girls and women are never arrested or brought to justice, while THOSE who are protesting that fact are given lengthy prison sentences for "hate crimes". Do you truly and honestly believe two tier systems are fair to UK and other European Citizens?

I read into this and your headline is a bit misleading.

Not that it's stopped people piling in with opinions.

Natty was charged for his part in the manslaughter: as an accomplice to his friend who has a much harsher sentence and has not been released early. I agree that he got released too early but your framing (or where you got this from) is misleading.

In addition, the guy who got twenty months for a social media post won't serve the twenty months of his sentence. For good behaviour, his likely to get parole and early release: as most prisoners do.

It also wasn't just a 'social media post.' He directly incited people to directly and violently attack a building housing asylum seekers. Several were injured and there might have been fatalities if the police hadn't shown up.

He deserved his sentence.

Let's not forget Just Stop Oil members got five year jail sentences for what a judge called "conspiracy to cause a public nuisance." The sentences were handed out for using social media to coordinate direct action protests on the motorway. That means they got five years in jail for blocking traffic. You're correct. It is madness.

@NativePortlander1970 they used non toxic washable orange powder. It was completely harmless. They were jailed for continuously challenging and embarrassing the state. Five years is despicable, as the UN agreed.

@NativePortlander1970 or had them transported to Australia, which, to be honest, is a worse fate.
Yeah... he should've been let go, despite the fact that he did something that caused terrified people to barricade themselves into a stairwell of a building that they reasonably suspected would be burning, right???

Nah, less than a year isn't long enough (10 months) when he could have literally killed people because of what he wrote. The only comfort in this is that the tosser will be able to tell us what Christmas Dinner tastes like care of HMP.

Nope it’s finally cracking down on racial hatred.

Wonder why the far-right thugs were scared to come back out onto the streets for the last two weeks?

Exactly.
@Illyria Nah, they're not scared of the sentences... they crapped themselves when the people had enough and confronted the rioters back.

@HootyTheNightOwl Either way, things are changing for the better in the UK

That's how I usually look at the distribution of laws and penalties.

We will lock someone up for hundreds of years if they commit a finacial crime, but you murder someone you can get out after only doing eight years in prison.

It's one of the many reasons I refused to become a cop.

i have heard there are problems over there. what in the world is going on?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@akindheart The US HAS been taken over by pure evil. The only question is if the American people will stand up against their government.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@hippyjoe1955 we will know that during the election. i suspect the left will try to steal it again by the looks of the fake news...and i am hoping that we are awake enough to say enough. when Trump first came on the scene, people were afraid to say they supported him. now they are openly campaigning for him. if he doesn't win, there will be a war. i am sure of it.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@akindheart I do hope there is no war. But I will fully understand it when it happens. The only question is if the war should break out will it be limited to the 50 states or will it spread to the 51 state AKA Canada.
As an actual Brit with a UK passport - it's always been this way.
@V00doo I have Always considered You a Dear Friend and level headed, I'm asking You to watch those three videos I linked to Athrilla with a clear mind, we're both Pagan so it should be easier for You to see and understand what religious extremism does to people.
@NativePortlander1970 I'll watch when I can. This isnt a new problem. I'll stand with what I said- Thatcher ruined it. No one can fix that mess.
@V00doo She did, Reagan did the same here in the states as well, his showdown with Soviet Russia inspired numerous songs, tv shows, and movies, none of them positive.
Because remember, telling the truth against a tryannical government is more heinous than actual crimes against the innocent.

You’ve passed up life, love.
