The UK has gone mad

20 months in prison for a social media post.
6 months for killing a kid with a machete.

It's pretty bad to release violent prisoners to make room for petty crime, but this comparison isn't fair.

The social media post guy was sentenced to 20 months. It's yet to be seen whether he has to finish all that if the prison capacity remains an issue. As we don't know how long he'll sit for, we can only compare sentences. That was also 20 months for being an accomplice in a machete murder. The actual murderer got 110 months and is not being released after only 6.

It's not good, but not nearly as bad as you're implying here.
@NerdyPotatoThis doesn't look like "petty crime" to me, and I'm sure you'd feel differently if you had family members barricaded in the stairwell of what they believe to be a burning building.

This guy incited that event in the riot.

@HootyTheNightOwl ok, that's pretty severe as well indeed.
@NerdyPotato There were children in there... it's not just all single men who are housed in hotels - like the right want us to believe.

They slept in the woods the night after the attack.

They don't need this trauma on top of whatever they've already been through on the journey to get here. On the face of it, the riots have more than likely caused more harm than good because these people will likely need therapy now as a result of what happened to them.

The wait for therapy is around 2 years before the riots.
