Illegal Alien Charged in DUI Crash That Killed 6-Year-Old Girl
A 6-year-old girl traveling with Melvin Geovani Pavon Gomez, an illegal alien from Hondoras, died Tuesday after sustaining injuries from a car crash in Alabama. He is now facing manslaughter charges, per The Post Millennial.
Gomez was also injured in the crash and was to South Baldwin Medical Center before being taken into custody.
Upon his arrest, Gomez’s blood alcohol content was three times the legal limit at .22, according to Chief Assistant District Attorney Teresa Heinz.
The 25-year old was charged with driving under the influence as well as first-degree assault. He is being held on a $150,000 bond at the Baldwin County jail.
He and his girlfriend got into an argument, which resulted in her exiting the car with the dog. Her 6-year-old daughter remained in the car with Gomez.
After, he crashed through a fence, resulting in the car flipping over. The victim was ejected from the car and then pinned underneath. She was not wearing a seat belt.
Prosecutors said that Gomez was driving 68 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone on County Road 28 near Davis Road in Summerdale, Alabama.
Gomez crossed the border illegally and sought asylum, which was denied. He was allowed to remain in the country. WKRG reports that he has been placed on a detainer so his case can be handled by ICE.
Gomez’s arrest is just one of many involving illegal aliens. Last week, Jesus Sandoval-Martinez was arrested in New Mexico after causing an accident that killed a 22-year old and injured another passenger. Sandoval-Martinez also entered the country illegally.
Israel Martin-Alonzo, an illegal alien from Guatemala, was sentenced to only two years in prison yesterday in Tennessee for the murder of Donald Rackley.
The 18-year old was driving and struck Rackley while he was walking in 2018. Alcohol played a factor.
