ARIZONA ABORTION LAW RETURNS TO 1864

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that a 160-year-old near-total abortion ban still on the books in the state is enforceable, a bombshell decision that adds the state to the growing lists of places where abortion care is effectively banned.

Arizonans will reverse the terrible decision through the ballot box, as will most states that prevent choice and impose the will of the minority on the majority.

@LeopoldBloom Physicians used to oppose abortion in the US. This was long before our modern debates. It was women and feminist nurses who fought for abortion when all kind and sensible men were against it. That, some sad cases about women dying, and modern feminist activism is how you got to Roe v. Wade. It is not supported by science. Physicians who opposed abortion in the 1800s were of the view that fetal quickening was not significant. There are some women who feel it at 20+ weeks, and others like me who feel it at 14 weeks. We know that a baby is developing and that this path is not supposed to be interrupted. It is innocent human life, and if deliberately ending innocent human life is wrong, killing a baby is wrong.

God knew that Jeremiah was going to be born, and he tells him about his path. He determined a path for Sampson too. He told his father to ensure that his mother take good care of herself during her pregnancy. She wasn't allowed to consume alcohol or eat anything "unclean." In the New Testament, it is clear that John the Baptist had a purpose conceived by God. He seems to know a lot about babies who aren't yet born. Exodus 21 says there is punishment for those who cause a woman to miscarry.

"Thou shalt not kill" is the commandment used for deliberate acts of killing another person. You may think a fetus is not a person, but they are a human. A human is a person in my eyes.

We only get to live once. Imagine coming alive in a world alone all by yourself. Then, you come upon another person. Wouldn't you be thrilled to have a companion in an empty world? You would think the more the merrier. But no, we kill each other. Even before they are born, we prefer to snuff them out.

We do not live in a world where we are welcome. It's hard, very hard for most to live this life. I can understand how a situation can compel someone to abort. If I am the fetus, I wouldn't object. I would rather not live.

The USA continues its slide into becoming a theocracy, actually to becoming an idiocracy.

Next stop for the GOP -- 1764!!!

@windinhishair
Your Christian nationalism will not rule over the people and create a Christian ethnostate.
As long as there are Christians in Congress, the White House, and the Supreme Court, Christianity will rule America.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@sree251 There have always been Christians in politics and Christianity has never ruled America. It won’t in the future either.

This seems rational what else was legal in Arizona in 1864

🧐

...

Oh my
@CountScrofula Yeah, pretty sure @sree251 wants to bring that back as well, since it's in the Bible.
Remember when conservatives used to complain about judges legislating from the bench? A vote on this is coming, there’s no way it survives. Even right wing nut cases like Kari Lake have come out against this.
@windinhishair Future historians will mark the Dobbs decision as a landmark signaling the end of the Republican party. Democrats have overperformed in every election since then, and every election where abortion was an issue has been decided on the pro-choice side. If each state could vote on abortion in isolation by initiative, it would only be illegal in maybe six states at the most.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@LeopoldBloom I think you are correct. Dobbs will factor in very large in this period of chaos.
@windinhishair The anti-abortion forces were actually making progress, by passing TRAP laws and failing to regulate CPCs. Several states had only a single abortion clinic, and third-trimester abortions were only available at around four clinics in the entire country. It was the classic frog in the hot water situation. The Dobbs decision allowed the anti-abortion forces to expose their true intentions, and the public isn't buying it. "Keep abortion legal" is a weaker argument than "legalize abortion" when the right has been taken away.
Women also couldn't vote in 1864. Why not go back to that too. Why not put all of the 21st century back in the 19th.
@sree251 no sir, even Trump loyalist Kari Lake says it's out of step with what the people of Arizona want.

If that is so, then change the law. Apparently, the Arizona legislature has taken the matter off the table.
@sree251 That mistake will be remedied very soon.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
It wasnt even a state back then???
@sree251 There is a direct correlation between the availability of abortion and contraception in a given country, and the degree of liberty and prosperity. Most of the countries where abortion is legal are free and wealthy, and the ones where it's illegal are poor and authoritarian. So I want abortion to be available because I could be affected in that way.

Why do you care? You're already born and can't be aborted. You need to butt out. What's wrong with you people?
@sree251 Are we talking about dumb laws that were passed while slavery was still legal, or religious beliefs? I've already established that abortion doesn't have anything to do with Christianity, at least not in a religious sense. Abortion is only an issue in political Christianity. There's no protection for political beliefs.

You have not been around poor countries that are more free - with regard to abortion - than the USA. Try Mexico, Thailand, or the Philippine for starters. The movement behind "Cancel culture" is up to no good.

@sree251

You are NOTHING like Jesus. As a matter of fact, you know nothing about him and his works. You are vain, a very vain person.
@sree251 If you don't want to stop them, then you clearly have no issue with this behavior.

Me not wanting to stop what? Mass shootings? I want the US to stop foreign wars now. No more getting involved with other people's conflicts. No more wars. Shut down the US war machine. It is infecting American society with gun violence.
