Question: Is Lewiston, ME a "small town"?

GerOttman · 61-69, M
I've been there. every town in Maine is a small town compared to most of the country. for Maine it's a fairly large city. pretty sure Augusta and Portland are larger. not sure about Kittery and Sanford...

@GerOttman I just looked it up. Lewiston is the second largest city by population in Maine to Portland. Larger than the towns you mentioned, and larger than Bangor.

@windinhishair Agusta is #3? I know it's the capitol city but most of Maine by my memory is pine trees and mosquitoes!

@GerOttman Augusta is actually 13th with just over 19,000. The top ten are
1. Portland
2. Lewiston
3. Bangor
4. South Portland
5. Auburn
6. Scarborough
7. Biddeford
8. Sanford
9. Brunswick
10. Saco

Most of Maine is very heavily wooded, as you remember, and the insects are awful in early summer!
I live in L.A. so almost every town seems a small town to me
@independentone I'll bet it does. I can't imagine living in a city that size.
Depends on where you're from. It's like an old joke I read once.

A couple from New York were vacationing in the south. They found a little map dot of a place during their road trip that was not much more than a gas station, general store, and a few houses. They stopped for gas, and the guy asked the station owner how he liked living in the country.

"Wouldn't know," he said. "I've always lived right here in town."

Not really. It has about 40,000 inhabitants, which is one of the larger places in Maine. And it is just across the river from Auburn, which has another 20,000.
