The idiot republicans are the ones causing the shutdown - ie. Mr Trump's fanbase.

It's not about cheaper or governance. The 2 million or so government employees will be paid retroactively. But about 4 million government contractors won't. The Democrats, and some Republicans, have done everything right in terms of the appropriation bills this is about. But a very small group of extremists, unserious people with a true desire to fundamentally change this Democracy, have hijacked the process. And because those in their party are too weak to stand up against them, here we are.

Unfortunately, practical economics is not the main point. Ideological posturing is more important to those who periodically cause this chaos.

It'll be fine. Happens like every 4-5 years, at least it seems that way. The last few presidents have had at least one shut down during their tenure. I think 2 happened under Obama, but I could be mistaken.
