Why would anyone use cotton plants as decor since we know the cruelties of slavery when cotton was picked?

And what's with these Plantation style weddings? Why doesn't anyone have any weddings at abandoned insane asylums?

I wear cotton and feel zero guilt over it. Don't ever ride a boat because slaves were brought over on boats then. The slave boats were made of wood. Throw out everything you own that is made of wood.

Honestly a lot of people using cotton plants as decoration likely don’t think of it’s history.’it is an obnoxious plant that drains nutrients from the land very quickly.

Do you eat rice? Do you smoke tobacco? Do you eat berries or corn? Do you eat meat?

Nearly every crop/livestock was once worked by enslaved people or poor free people who traveled for the field work and had no choice but to accept minimal wages. No sense in boycotting a plant now just because there was ONCE cruelty involved in the procuring of it. As long as the company you buy from is ethical, it should be fine.

@Vin53 I mean they are not wrong. A plantation wedding is best case scenario very cringeworthy.

And the usual justification is that they are beautiful old buildings. Many old asylums also fit that bill. But weddings in asylums are seen as tacky.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow An asylum was used only to house what were thought to be insane people. A plantation was not a slave factory; it was not the purpose of a plantation.

It’s okay to admire old architecture. It would not be okay to have a plantation reenactment wedding.
