Dems Tell Republicans To Stop Defending Trump

Top Democratic leaders have taken a firm stance in defense of the federal government’s handling of investigations related to former President Trump. They argue that Republicans have exceeded their authority by making requests to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the release of documents associated with the ongoing probes.

During a press briefing, Representative Ted Lieu, a Democrat from California and the vice chairman of the Democratic Caucus, highlighted the separation of powers and emphasized that Congress, as the legislative branch, should refrain from interfering with ongoing legal investigations. Lieu’s comments came just days after Representative Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio and a vocal Trump ally serving as the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, attempted to gain access to information pertaining to special counsel Jack Smith’s investigations into Trump.

In his pursuit of information, Jordan sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland on a Tuesday morning, demanding access to the initial memo that outlined the specific duties of the special counsel’s investigation. Additionally, he sought access to information and documents concerning the FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and the subsequent investigation. However, Jordan’s requests have thus far been unfulfilled, prompting him to seek an unredacted copy of the memorandum detailing the scope of Smith’s probe, along with any supplementary documentation related to Smith’s appointment. Jordan set a deadline of June 20 for the DOJ to provide the requested documents.

In response, Representative Lieu, a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, criticized Jordan’s actions as politically motivated and characterized them as an encroachment into the ongoing investigation. Lieu cautioned Jordan that he should not expect the requested documents to be handed over.

This clash between Democratic and Republican representatives showcases the ideological divisions and differing interpretations of congressional authority within the context of ongoing investigations involving former President Trump. The Democratic leaders’ defense of the federal government’s handling of the investigations underscores their commitment to preserving the integrity and independence of legal processes. Meanwhile, the Republican representative’s persistent pursuit of information reflects a desire to obtain transparency and access to relevant documents to fulfill their oversight responsibilities. The outcome of this dispute will shape the dynamics between the two parties and impact the public’s perception of the ongoing investigations.

On Thursday, June 8, Donald Trump was officially indicted a second time, this time with seven charges in regards to the classified documents case.

I think Dems are terrified over the anger they have stoked in America.
After the indictment, Trump is still about 40 points ahead of DeSantis in the polls. America sees through this charade as purely politically motivated to keep Trump out of office.

@carpediem That's....pretty much what I was saying....

@BizSuitStacy An image of a owned “puppet” with little to no grasp of reality, raging and ranting like a dictator because he was told to do so. He panders to his owners’ base.

Democrats have turned us into a 3rd World Banana Republic where the ruling party throws its opposition into prison. Democrats can't win on their awful policies so they have to resort to siccing "law enforcement" on opponents and ballot-harvesting to maintain power.
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
Dems telling Trump supporters to stop defending him is like the Nazis advising the Allies not to invade Normandy or the Japanese telling the Marines not to land on Guadalcanal. 😅😄
carpediem · 61-69, M
They certainly inspired me to send $$ to the Trump camp.
Musicman · 61-69, M
They clearly want total power with no opposition. Soon unless you are a certified registered Democrat you probably won't even be allowed to vote, own property or hold a job let alone a political office.
graphite · 61-69, M
@Musicman Absolutely. Democrats do not think they should have to tolerate opposition and are in the process of crushing it. They're concocting "kidnapping" charges against Ron DeSantis, too.

Former Attorney General Barr was seen on Fox News stabbing Trump in the back...for the umpteenth time...stating that Trump doesn't have a chance. Trump has so many enemies...on both sides...I fear for him.
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@4meAndyou ... what is Barr hiding
4meAndyou · F
@BigGuy2 I have no idea what happened between them...but when Barr was Attorney General, briefly, I thought he was a good guy. Then he and Trump had a disagreement, and it has been Barr stabbing Trump in the back ever since.
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@4meAndyou ... the way the Dems treated Barr in front of the Senate was utterly shocking, so it begs the question as to how bad the falling out was, or over what ... Barr should have said:

"We're now enemies, but the greater enemy are these nutjobs"
4meAndyou · F
I can't even feel angry anymore. I am past that stage. I feel wounded, and sad...and hopeless...almost as though a member of my own family had become a punching bag for demented and evil people wielding tremendous power...and watching Trumps own party betray him over and over and over again is poison in the wound.

Did you know that George Soros is putting 125 MILLION into defeating Trump? But a coalition of back stabbing poisonous RINOS have raised 225 MILLION to defeat Trump.
@4meAndyou It's not hopeless. Place your faith in God. God never loses.
4meAndyou · F
@BizSuitStacy Tearing up a bit. I should NOT have forgotten that.
@TexChik Biden admitted to extortion and obstruction of justice right there on camera.
graphite · 61-69, M
@BizSuitStacy And no charges at all. Biden, Clinton, Pelosi are criminals who don't have to fear prosecution since "law enforcement" does their bidding.
Like they stopped defending Hillary and Biden, currently under the proverbial spotlight for his monetary dealings/assets? C’mon, man!
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
Lieu: "Our political prosecutions good; your politics bad."
How do you get to Democratic fear over Trumpists anger from this post?

I'm not saying its not real or justified, but I'm not sure how you get there from what you've posted here.
@DavidT8899 You actually have a point there. After reading the Mueller Report and seeing how many people swallowed the mischaracterizations, I didnt bother to read all of Durham's and I've long since given up on trying to convince folks who swallow Trumpist Kool aid.

That said, I don't see them as totally other, and came here to ask a question about a discrete question, and not to argue about how people think or don't think.

Mind you, I've done that before, and may again, but it gets old pretty quickly.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@MistyCee Only a never -Trumper could describe the actions of the Muller team as "mischaracterizations".The rest of us correctly define them as a series a blatant LIES-lies about the sources, lies to the F.I.S.A judges, need I go on?And the F.B.I and various law-enforcement agencies KNEW they were lies-and went along with them anyway. And in the few instances were people were brought up on charges, they were either given little punishment or let off dispute being blatantly guilty;many after openly admitting that they broke the law.A country can't survive like this;changes have to be made.
@DavidT8899 I may be a never Trumper, but I wasnt calling anything in the Mueller report a mischaracterization.

I was talking about Barr's "summary" and the "spin" that followed.

I've already admitted I didn't plow through Durham's response, though, so I'm not going to push back on that.

Trump and Biden are the only ones. Nobody thinks Americans get an actual vote! Trump and Biden are both hated-
West And Williamson and Kennedy are polling higher but here you only ever ever ever have Biden and trump to mention! That's dictatorship. You rule and we hate your two parties.
The duopoly might be our enemy, but it's your boss.
@Spotpot nobody in the party.
Spotpot · 41-45, M
@Roundandroundwego No one who knows them.

@Roundandroundwego
Trump and Biden are both hated-
Biden is despised but Trump is sincerely loved and trusted.
Spotpot · 41-45, M
There is no evidence of Biden and Pence ever reached the scale of what Trump did with the secret documents they unlike Trump returned them when asked.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Both parties are bad. Taking sides is like saying I'm gonna eat crap out of a red bowl just because it's a prettier color. 🙂
