Why are the Christian Conservatives so anti-christian?

Why?
Graylight · 51-55, F
Nothing has ever held those in power and oppressed all others like the blanket of religion used as a weapon. They don't need their needs met here - theirs awaits in heaven. They need no education and worldly talk - their pastors will lead them in the name of the next Republican president. They have no use of Jesus' words because while the image can't be beat, the fact is Jesus said all those icky things about inclusion and the least of us and take care of others. So they just wear the merch.

This group feels besieged because they are losing ground. ... “As recently as 2008, when our first Black president was elected, the U.S. was a majority (54%) white Christian country.” By 2014 the number had dropped to 47 percent, and in 2022 it stood at 42 percent.

The group that has declined the most is at the core of the MAGA movement, the group most devoted to Christian nationalism. “White evangelical Protestants have experienced the steepest decline. As recently as 2006, white evangelical Protestants comprised nearly one-quarter of Americans (23%). By the time of Trump’s rise to power, their numbers had dipped to 16.8%,” Jones explains. “Today, white evangelical Protestants comprise only 13.6% of Americans.”

They’re what we used to call “card carriers “, harassing everybody around them until they would take a card inviting them to Sunday school. It’s all a competitive game, there’s nothing Holy or positive involved.

To them being Christian primarily means being anti-women’s choice, hating lgbtq, and generally being judgy towards others. That’s what they’re spoon fed by their redneck pastors based on misinterpretation of a few cherry picked passages of scripture. And of course the misinterpretation is intentional to align with the GOP political agenda.
Mostly because it is a cover for garbage politics.

Chris Hedges said he finds these folks amusing because they crap their pants when they learn he is an ordained minister. They have like 5 verses to justify their bullshit memorized and have no clue about anything else.
Religious texts are largely rorschach tests.

@BohemianBoo How so? Do you mean that the particular reader sees what he or she wants?
@Graylight Yes. Generally, a religious person will read their religious text and then either interpret it the way they want, or just ignore the parts they don't like and then find a way to justify it.
On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

{@trollslayer] 🤔 well if you class trump and his cult as christian conservatives they go against most christian values with the racial hatred and intolerance
Colonialism isn't nice.
What's truly sad is, they pretend that's not true.

@LordShadowfire their litmus test is Abortion. They feel they can justify killing anything they want, so long as they are against abortion.
@trollslayer Ha! Here's a fun video that they'll probably ignore and give me a thumbs down for sharing. You'll get a kick out of it, though.
