Rough Time for Fake News: Trust in Media in the Sewer – Majority of Americans Now Believe Media Intends to “Mislead, Misinform or Persuade the Public”

It’s a rough time for fake news.
Trust in the media is in the sewer.

a new study has found.

In a survey of 5,593 adults, Gallup and the Knight Foundation — which have been publishing reports on trust in news media since 2017 — found only 26% of Americans view news media favorably overall. A full 50% of respondents disagreed with the statement that most national news orgs “do not intend to mislead, misinform, or persuade the public.”

Americans lead the international outcry against fake news.

The US ranks DEAD LAST among 46 countries in a recent study on trust in media.

The US ranks dead last in trust in media. Americans are wising up to the fake news movement in America today.
Poynter reported:

The United States ranks last in media trust — at 29% — among 92,000 news consumers surveyed in 46 countries, a report released Wednesday found. That’s worse than Poland, worse than the Philippines, worse than Peru. (Finland leads at 65%.)

The annual digital news report from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford also found some improvement in trust in nearly all the countries surveyed — probably thanks to COVID-19 coverage — but not in the U.S. where the low rating was flat year to year.

One explanation, though not necessarily the only one, is the extreme political polarization in the U.S. This study, like many others, found extremely high levels of distrust — 75% of those who identify as being on the right thought coverage of their views is unfair.

Local news, both print and broadcast, fared better than national news. However, the findings for struggling local print outlets were not all good.

Interest in local news and willingness to pay for it was not strong. Only 21% in the U.S. said that they pay for news online. Of those who do, 31% said they pay for The New York Times, 24% for The Washington Post and only 23% for the site of a local or regional paper.

Once you're awake, it's easy to see through the media. The latest rants against Tucker Carlson are nicely coordinated. You've noticed the leftists here on SW beating the exact same drum. "Tucker is a liar" or "He's an entertainer, not a journalist." Right on cue. He's a threat to their narrative.

@SW-Userre: Instead, it is in pandering to the under-educated and under-informed, i.e. Republicans … and that is exactly what he does. 🤣. Anyone who doesn't buy into the Democrat bulls** is "underinformed." The gall and arrogance of these Democrats knows no bounds. Same folks who watch CNN and MSNBC without question and read stuff like the HuffPost, which put Trump campaign coverage in 2016 in the Entertainment section, decreeing Trump was "not a serious candidate." Oops!
@graphite waterhispants can't get out of the way of his own lies. Bot response? Or just a copy/paste a prepared narrative. Tucker had a long career in journalism before shifting toward becoming a political analyst, and it's easily verified.

@BizSuitStacy It's obvious how Democrats have their operatives hard at work trying to pitch bulls*** narratives destroying Carlson. This is what happens when you expose the Democrats' lies. Democrats are fanatic about holding power, which is all we need to know about how they shouldn't have any.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Interesting. I only responded to you, who originally brought up Trump in the first place... 🤷‍♂️
@SW-User the point and Q was about fake news.
Let me check what’s headlining today…
Oh look they’re impeaching orange man .. again.

What a shocker.. from the fake news..

And of course nearly all of that 26% consisted of left-wing Democrats, for obvious reasons. 🙄

Most of the media does nothing but serve the Democrat Party. Democrats know they can get away with anything and the "news media," Hollywood, corporations, social networks will have their backs.
How can we? They have off air romances and dalliances, and betwee getting banged and paid, the search for truth in what is going on and should be reported, goes out the window.
Truth in Journalism? I got a bridge in Brooklyn…

Faux Noise promoting Trump is at the root of all that uncertainty.

@cherokeepatti Do you suppose this story will make cable news tonight? LOL

@Budwick anything but
Yep, its just instinctive.
Sounds realistic. Mostly Americans don't need to know anything. It's no democracy! The experts are running everything. People don't need to care about a thing.

Only in the US, and only FOX, the most MS of MSM. The rest of the world is doing just fine, thanks.

Surely this works both ways though bud? Youre being fed as much bullshit as i am? Sad really.
"You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time." (Many versions)

Disinformation: False information intended to deliberately deceive people.
Willful blindness: Deliberate failure to make a reasonable inquiry into wrongdoing. Conscience avoidance of the truth.

People 'choose' what they want to read, etc. and who their enemies are.

The New York Times, Washington Post are the most aggressive for charging for their service. I go to Yahoo need too get around that if there happens to be something I really need on Google news those papers give the headline and a couple of sentences before the pop up appears. But they do give away 4 articles a month.

Yet people keep watching enough to keep them in business.
