Rough Time for Fake News: Trust in Media in the Sewer – Majority of Americans Now Believe Media Intends to “Mislead, Misinform or Persuade the Public”

It’s a rough time for fake news.
Trust in the media is in the sewer.

a new study has found.

In a survey of 5,593 adults, Gallup and the Knight Foundation — which have been publishing reports on trust in news media since 2017 — found only 26% of Americans view news media favorably overall. A full 50% of respondents disagreed with the statement that most national news orgs “do not intend to mislead, misinform, or persuade the public.”

Americans lead the international outcry against fake news.

The US ranks DEAD LAST among 46 countries in a recent study on trust in media.

The US ranks dead last in trust in media. Americans are wising up to the fake news movement in America today.
Poynter reported:

The United States ranks last in media trust — at 29% — among 92,000 news consumers surveyed in 46 countries, a report released Wednesday found. That’s worse than Poland, worse than the Philippines, worse than Peru. (Finland leads at 65%.)

The annual digital news report from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford also found some improvement in trust in nearly all the countries surveyed — probably thanks to COVID-19 coverage — but not in the U.S. where the low rating was flat year to year.

One explanation, though not necessarily the only one, is the extreme political polarization in the U.S. This study, like many others, found extremely high levels of distrust — 75% of those who identify as being on the right thought coverage of their views is unfair.

Local news, both print and broadcast, fared better than national news. However, the findings for struggling local print outlets were not all good.

Interest in local news and willingness to pay for it was not strong. Only 21% in the U.S. said that they pay for news online. Of those who do, 31% said they pay for The New York Times, 24% for The Washington Post and only 23% for the site of a local or regional paper.

Once you're awake, it's easy to see through the media. The latest rants against Tucker Carlson are nicely coordinated. You've noticed the leftists here on SW beating the exact same drum. "Tucker is a liar" or "He's an entertainer, not a journalist." Right on cue. He's a threat to their narrative.
@BizSuitStacy Tucker got hold in some fashion, information that has made the proponents of the “insurrection “ mantra, cringe and run to their “ safe spaces” where they lick their wounds, and bare their metaphorical “ fangs” and lash out. Truth hurts!
@soar2newhighs Far too many things don't add up with the "insurrection" narrative.
@BizSuitStacy If they let the 2020 rioters get a pass which may not have been insurrection per se, though some of that chaos and mayhem ( eagerly overlooked) may well have been, then what was so bad about 6 Jan? There is stuff that happened at and in the Capitol that makes 6 Jan look like a summer picnic. That said, the mind set of idiot mayors who called it something like a season of love and blue state Governors and city officials chose not to use their state’s law entities to stop the rioting.
This behavior is apparently still prevalent in Portland and it has cropped up in Atlanta. Most in Atlanta, were white, at least two from other nations ( one from Canada one from France) and some, the children of well to do, aka “wealthy/rich” white parents were hauled in for their riotous behavior.
@BizSuitStacy Though the battles still rage, have you noticed the silence of three key figures? Pelosi, Nadler and Schiff? Yeah, find your safe spaces, keep that low profile. But the stench you left will lead to your accepting your responsibility for failure!
@soar2newhighs I argued with someone here about what is and isn't an insurrection. Below is what they copy and pasted. Based on that definition, the entire summer of love was an insurrection.

insurrection noun in· sur· rec· tion ˌin-sə-ˈrek-shən : the act or an instance of revolting especially violently against civil or political authority or against an established government also : the crime of inciting or engaging in such revolt
@BizSuitStacy I have too. But I remind them with screenshots of news items such as the FBI saying 6 January was Not an insurrection.
As for Garland, he’s shrewd, not saying it was or wasn’t.
Someone asked him, “what’s your position in Government?” He replied, “Shakey!” (being sarcastic here).

@BizSuitStacy Tucker always plays these montages of the Democrats' media all saying the exact same thing. "Manufactured crisis!" Then 10 other "news" shows describing something as a "manufactured crisis," with Republicans always cast in a negative light.
SW-User
@BizSuitStacy Well Tucker himself says he's not a journalist...
@SW-User Did he actually say that? Or are you repeating something someone else said? Because he started his career as a journalist even though his current role is as a political analyst.

@BizSuitStacy The Democrats HATE Carlson and want him destroyed because he is always shining a light on what these cockroaches are up to while the rest of the "news media' just runs the standard DNC talking points.
SW-User
@BizSuitStacy He may have once flirted with journalism, but no longer.

His main problem is that he doesn’t treat everyone, or every viewpoint equally. Those who agree with him are treated much differently than those who do not – and that is not what journalists do.

Journalists also do not blatantly engage in inflammatory rhetoric. When Trump was elected, Carlson took his obscene rhetoric to a whole new level but in such a clever way that it took a while for it to even be noticed. His bewildered facial expressions are ridiculous, but if you look closely, he only did this at the end of an inflammatory question, statement, or easily provable lie that caters to the Republican base of which his audience is almost entirely made up. Again, not journalism.

Check his facial expressions after he said:

“Democrats rigged the election right in front of us, and nobody did anything about it.”

“Our civilization is superior and we need to defend it.”

“There is no physical evidence that George Floyd was murdered by a cop.”

“Do you get along better with your neighbors and co-workers if you can’t understand each other?”

“This may be a lot of things, this moment we’re living through – but it is definitely not about black lives. And remember that when they come for you, and at this rate, they will.”

“The Democratic party is trying to replace the current electorate, the voters now casting ballots, with new people, more obedient voters from the Third World.”

Yes, it seems calling him a journalist these days is like referring to January 6 as a friendly peaceful protest, which is what he's tried to do, to everyone's amusement🤭

Perhaps he came into the profession looking to challenge the intelligentsia of American power and give them an opposing viewpoint but also to challenge their viewpoint. But what he has found over the years is that the money, and power, are not in challenging the intelligent.

Instead, it is in pandering to the under-educated and under-informed, i.e. Republicans … and that is exactly what he does.

Therefore, he is not a journalist.
He may have once flirted with journalism, but no longer.
LOL 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
OH MY...how are we going to discredit Tucker. Let's see...

10 years as a journalist writing for various publications.
4 years at CNN
2 years at PBS
4 years at MSNBC
Joined Fox in 2009.

20-30 years. That's more than just flirting Skippy

**Dumped the democrat party in 2020** There's your problem. Tucker woke up.

@SW-User Yes, we know Democrats and their media don't take kindly to anyone exposing their corruption and are hard at work trying to destroy Carlson. Good luck with that. Same folks who pushed the Russia Hoax for years, supported covid lockdowns, mandatory vaccines, told us Hunter's laptop was "Russian disinformation," etc... They've redefined "true journalism" to mean buying Democrat bulls*** without question.

@SW-Userre: Instead, it is in pandering to the under-educated and under-informed, i.e. Republicans … and that is exactly what he does. 🤣. Anyone who doesn't buy into the Democrat bulls** is "underinformed." The gall and arrogance of these Democrats knows no bounds. Same folks who watch CNN and MSNBC without question and read stuff like the HuffPost, which put Trump campaign coverage in 2016 in the Entertainment section, decreeing Trump was "not a serious candidate." Oops!
@graphite waterhispants can't get out of the way of his own lies. Bot response? Or just a copy/paste a prepared narrative. Tucker had a long career in journalism before shifting toward becoming a political analyst, and it's easily verified.
graphite · 61-69, M
@BizSuitStacy It's obvious how Democrats have their operatives hard at work trying to pitch bulls*** narratives destroying Carlson. This is what happens when you expose the Democrats' lies. Democrats are fanatic about holding power, which is all we need to know about how they shouldn't have any.
