How did the GOP become an extremist alt-right christian nationlist party

It started with the ""Moral Majority" that put Reagan in the White House. From that point, every single GOP President made it to the White House thanks to the Evangelical vote.

It was already well on its way, but Trump gave it legitimacy. So it was essentially Trump.

Trump became the mouth piece to say outloud what everyone knew they were saying quietly hoping no one would notice

All I know is that nobody should vote Republican until the party has been thoroughly purged of its foolish and wicked elements.
