First Biden Administration State Dinner

The President and First Lady held a state dinner for the First French couple at the White House.

Technically, it was a huge tent set up outside, which meant that the Bidens had to rent china/cutlery, etc. as the department in charge cannot allow that stuff to leave the White House.

The tent was needed, because this largest state dinner held, due to the number of people who wanted an invite. A good time was had by all, and even Kevin McCarthy, who's still looking for that special girl, showed up with his mom.

The French First Couple is off to New Orleans.

Are you serious, they can't take the china, etc. outside? That seems bizarre.

@samueltyler2 Yeah, it’s not like it’s classified documents or anything.

@samueltyler2 It's beyond priceless is why.

@LordShadowfire I can't believe the WH has only one set!

@samueltyler2 I think they've got more than one set, but the fact that each set has such historical significance means that even one fork stolen from the White House could be worth a million dollars.

For the State Dinner, the Bidens have opted to use rental dishes, glasses, flatware, table accoutrements and linens. The venue, though on the White House grounds, does not allow for the official White House china services to be used for the dinner, said White House social secretary Carlos Elizondo. White House curators, who oversee the use of all items in the White House collection, do not count the temporarily installed tent as part of the campus – and thus the china of presidents’ past would not be part of the service.

@LordShadowfire apparently, it has nothing to do with the value. it has to do with the keeper of those supplies that define where and when they can be used. since the tents are non-permanent parts of the WH, they may not be used. That is a very strange rule.

@samueltyler2 It is weird, but makes sense. It's also at the very core of the concept the MAGAs don't understand. This is the property of the people of the United States of America, not the temporary occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

As such, the custodians decide how the property of the people is used, not the President. And when this President's term expires, the next gets to temporarily use the property of the people.

@LordShadowfire Correct. It all has historical significance -- some has been gifts to the Office, not the occupant -- and therefore is of museum quality and can only be used under curator standards to maintain museum standards.
