Someone said “democracy often ends in oligarchy”

Um 😐

Isn’t that kind of where we are at now?

The “elites” “the deep state”

There are some critical differences between democracies and oligarchies. In democracies, all people have an equal say in the government, regardless of how much money they have. In oligarchies, only people with a lot of money have a voice in the government. This means that the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.

Democracies also tend to be more stable than oligarchies. In democracies, there is always a chance that the people can vote out the people in power if they don’t like them. In oligarchies, the people in power usually stay in control for a long time because they have a lot of money and can buy votes.

Overall, it is clear that democracies are better than oligarchies. Democracies are fairer, more stable, and give all people a voice

I was today years old when I discovered america is an oligarchy disguised as a democracy similar to how socialist Venezuela identifies as a democracy

@sunsporter1649 a republic is a type of democracy 🙄

it's the oligarchs that are always complaining that the Constitution is outdated, which is why they always attack the individual liberties outlined in it...

They also hate freedom of religion, as they hate anything beyond their purview of control
@wildbill83 it looks like you’re calling Thomas Jefferson an oligarch.

The demise of our republic is socialism
The ancient American democracy is completely ineffective for today’s world. It was designed to consolidate power for the ruling classes/elites a few hundred years ago.

The constitution is at least 100 years out of date and miles behind more modern more representative democratic systems.

The US seriously needs to up their game and move into the 21st Century with some kind of proportional representation that will do away with a two party state.
@DeluxedEdition Personally I think America is a great country. The people are amazing, I have visited a few times. I feel that they deserve better than what they get.

@Ozymandiaz Which is why we are throwing the left-wing nut-job marxists out
@sunsporter1649 Dude you don’t even make points. Just spout rhetoric. It’s childish.

The socialists of today do work for oligarchs not for the " working poor" like before and actually they spit on the latest.
Fake democracies but more like banana republics
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@revenant I wouldn’t mind a banana based republic. I like bananas

every system is ruled by the ones with the money

good bad or indifferent.

And that leads to rebellion
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@TexChik as if should !
Democracy is 2x wolves and a lamb voting on what’s for lunch
calicuz · 56-60, M
That would be true.
Zeuro · 26-30, F
It isn’t fully one or the other really, but something in between. Votes do matter and virtually everyone gets one, but with the rich and powerful giving limitless donations to political campaigns, the definitely tip the scales a lot
Pfuzylogic · M
we aren’t a pure democracy but a democratic Republic. That was how Trump could have been outvoted by Hillary by at least 4 million and still win.
