They didn't do badly - or terribly...
Maybe policy wise they're more or less ok it's just even Americans are fed up with the screaming thing.
Or voters like the screaming but hate the policies...

@Persephonee most pundits, including Republicans, consider the Republicans were slammed.

Liberals scream. Are you kidding me? @Persephonee
Persephonee · 26-30, F
@Spoiledbrat I think it's just Americans in general tbh

Probably @Persephonee

@Persephonee historically speaking and by most accounts republicans should have done much much better as an nonincumbent party during a midterm.
Them taking body blows like this during a midterm is pretty telling of where their rhetoric lands with voters

@samueltyler2 @NoahB The standard narrative is 'incumbent-party-in-WH-party-gets-canned-in-midterms' but that's not necessarily true long-term; only in the last 30-40 years or so. Which is a long term in US history terms but not really in the historical terms of someone over the pond.
I think polarisation counters hating-the-ruling-party fairly nicely (especially since the TOP [Trump's Old Party...] went out of its way to find excruciatingly awful candidates in some races). Republicans probably should have done better. But they'd find it impossible to do much worse - and so would Democrats if their positions were reversed.
If y'all ask nicely, the king might accept an apology for that snotty note sent to his great-great-great-great-great-grandfather. Parliament's hardly improved much in 247 years but general opinion seems to be Congress isn't that wonderful either. Just an offer...

@Persephonee but there is only one group in the US that wants to pull down the government, and prefers a theocracy or a dictatorship.
NoahB · 31-35, M
@Persephonee hahaha thanks for the offer. but i think england might be dealing with a little much to be adopting back countries right now
Persephonee · 26-30, F
@NoahB That's ok. I'm sure when confronted with the reality of President Ivanka Trump c.2028 you'll reconsider...
NoahB · 31-35, M
@Persephonee lollll true. but by then you guys might have boris again sooooo..... i mean..... not a big enough difference for me im afraid
Persephonee · 26-30, F
@samueltyler2 I was born in what, constitutionally, is an absolutist theocratic dictatorship, where the 26 most senior members of the state church get to pass laws, and the king (or queen as then was) is second only to Jesus Christ in his head-ship of the Church. I survived.
What the US needs is more Episcopalians. Or something...

@Persephonee something! Maybe atheists.
Persephonee · 26-30, F
Boris @NoahB This is why I found a job in France. Not that Marine le Pen is much better. But at least BoJo can be thrown out by his party at a moment's notice. In the US you're all too fond of written down rules I wonder!
Persephonee · 26-30, F
@samueltyler2 Wiccans.
NoahB · 31-35, M
@Persephonee Yeah fair enough. There's a certain sanctimony here over the rules around here. I like the protest happy attitude of france much better. I suppose a revolution embeds a certain spirit in a countries people.
Persephonee · 26-30, F
@NoahB England had a revolution but it went so badly so quickly that it's not happened since. Not even Robespierre advocating the Cult of Reason tried to ban Christmas!
NoahB · 31-35, M
@Persephonee yeah it figures it didn't go well. you all still have a king! hahahaha!
