This is the best you guys can do?

“You have people that are teaching — and actually his running mate has said this in the past — that teaching the United States was built on stolen land," DeSantis said. "That is inappropriate for our schools; it's not true.”
Governor and boy who never went to history class, Ron DeSantis.

You can say you don't want your kids learning it. You can teach it but justify or excuse it in some way. But you can't say it isn't true, because it is.

I really don't know what Republicans are afraid of here. Do they want kids to think white folks are 100% perfect and have done nothing wrong, ever? Isn't part of Christianity to admit your sins, your wrongs, and ask for forgiveness and grow from them?

Desantis' comment sounds very blasphemous to me.

@trollslayer Yes. That IS what they want. And they gave up on christianity a loooong time ago, they're just Christianist Cultists now

Don't know much about history, don't know much biology.....
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@windinhishair ... what a wonderful world this would be... 🤷🏻‍♂️
The same people yelling and screaming about immigrants taking over can't face up to the fact America is a country founded by immigrants who took it over.

@robingoodfellow

This is very true my friend, and I'm American.
firefall · 61-69, M
Hey, the americans* didnt steal the land, it was just lying there unused, after all the Indians voluntarily chose to die from horrible diseases and bullets and stuff.
calicuz · 56-60, M
@firefall

Exactly!!!
Lol ah yes North America: the beautiful land that totally didn't have countless generations of inhabitants living here prior to European colonization.

I don't believe he's this ignorant...he just hopes his voters are.

Facts don't care about your feelings, Ron!
Fascism requires a lost golden age when everything was perfect, so saying anything negative about how white people settled the country must not be allowed.

@DavidT8899 It’s not good or bad or highlights or low points. It’s history.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Graylight I agree.And like all countries,our history has a combination of all of what you described.I,however,belive the good has been far greater than the highlights have outshined the low points.
Graylight · 51-55, F
No one has removed it from the classroom. What they are doing is rewriting history (see DeSantis).@DavidT8899

He’s a jar of gerbil urine
calicuz · 56-60, M
Yes, the land was obtained unscrupulously. It can be taught along side a narrative that wouldn't cause harm to the descendents of those who stole the land.
Graylight · 51-55, F
More than you know. I love capitalism; what I abhor are ignorant consumers of everything who mistake rampant, stampeding capitalism for something sustainable. But you’re a dim bulb who probably can’t speak on capitalism for more than 10 seconds.@JohnnySpot

@Graylight It's not rocket science.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@JohnnySpot No, it’s not rocket science, but it is a science.

Everything is built around denying truths and accepting lies, it's our forte..

On the other hand,the country usually paid for the land it annexed.Not a perfect solution,but........
@Graylight He needs to read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Graylight Well,I know we paid Mexico for the land we seized in fair conquest-something Im sure most countries wouldnt have done under similar circumstances.I know that in many cases,the U.S. goverment has made cash settlement with displaced Indian tribes.As I stated before,I realize that its not a perfect solution and its not one that was implemented every time out.But I still belive that its more of an effort than most places would give for doi g rhe same thing.
@DavidT8899 There were no "cash settlements" with Native American tribes. They were massacred, driven off their land, and forced into what amount to concentration camps. You make it sound like a legitimate real estate purchase. That may have happened in the very early days when the Pilgrims purchased farm land, but the history of the period after that was genocide and ethnic cleansing.

The misconceptions you have about these basic facts of American history demonstrate how our educational system has failed, and it will only get worse.
We're no longer hoping Americans will become post empire, post colonial or post war mongering. You are an endless war. Good for you,. The final solution to everyone.

The atrocities of the past are not a secret.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
It boots us nothing to feel rage for things of long ago that transpired, we must curb our fury and allow sadness to diminish.
@JohnnySpot They will be if teachers are not allowed to discuss them.

Political propaganda that only draws more attention to the truth.
