It's so sad to see the sheer frothing at the mouth, vicious hatred that some Trump supporters seem to have for the left.

They believe the lies Trump has told them and the lies they've told each other and now they genuinely see about 50% of their fellow Americans as enemies of democracy and the United States.
They hate, hate hate the other side and believe them to be actually evil and actively interested in destroying the country.

It's so sad to see how this one manipulative, narcissistic dumpster fire of a human being has managed with his "fake news" and cries of conspiracy to so deeply divide the American people.
And the kicker? Trump does not
Give
A
Shit about any of it or any of you.
Trump cares about Trump and he has shown willingness to tear America apart for the sake of his own bloated ego.

Win or lose in 2024, i think this crisis of division will be Trump's only real legacy to the USA.

Yes it is sad. However, the same could be said for how the left hates Trump supporters.
@Riverman2

I think there is absolutely an element of that. I just don't see it played out from the left as fanatically as i see it played out from Trump supporters.
And make no mistake, there is a very definite distinction between the political right and the cult of Trump.

@Pikachu Would it be fair to say there is a distinction between the political left and the cult of Trump haters?
All I know is that if this continues to escalate out of control, neither wins.
@Riverman2

While there is a faction that is just first and foremost anti-Trump, we can't call it a cult in the same way.
The Trump cult worships Trump. They believe that he is the source of truth while his enemies all lie. They think he is the saviour of America. He's convinced them that they can't trust the free press and that their political opposition actually hates America and freedom and wants to destroy it.

@Riverman2 I don't see the Trump haters as a cult, either. It's more like an anticult. They see the cult of Trump worshipers, and conclude that anyone with that big of a cult following must have no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

@Pikachu It seems to me that one could say that same thing by switching the names. But you have a right to your opinion.
@Riverman2

It seems to me that one could say that same thing by switching the names

Well let's explore that.
Switch the names and give me the real world examples that back them up.

Remember, Trump taught his cult that any information that he didn't like was "Fake News" and they believe it to this day.
Trump taught his cult that the political left is trying to destroy their country and take away their democracy.
Trump taught his cult that they had to literally, physically fight these enemies which culminated in the January 6th attempt to overturn by force an American election result.

So flip the name and let's see if that kind of fanaticism is observable from the other side.
Riverman2 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu same, same, same, same
@Riverman2

same, same, same, same

So share with me the real world examples that you consider to be the same.
Riverman2 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu Let's cut to the chase and go with the one thing you and I are in full agreement on :. The other one is wrong. Lol.
@Riverman2

I don't know that you're wrong.
But you're making a claim and i want to see if you can back it up....i think that deserves to be scrutinized, not skated past.

If you find yourself unable or unwilling to substantiate your claim then so be it and we'll end it there.
I'd just like that to see that choice be made explicit and not cut out of the dialogue entirely.
Riverman2 · 61-69, M
@Pikachu I think I said enough by saying all you have to do is switch the names. Both sides are saying the exact same thing. I don't care about winning an argument. I care about avoiding a civil war.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Riverman2 You Do realize that by stating a claim on the internet, people are going to ask you to prove it, and if you've got nothing, they won't take you seriously. I know you say you don't care, but you wouldn't be stating your opinion publicly if you didn't want to win hearts to your cause.
@Riverman2

I think I said enough by saying all you have to do is switch the names.

And while i mean no offense, to be blunt i think that was facile rhetoric.
It seems to me that if real world examples of this mirror image existed then you could have presented them as readily as i did.
I think you don't want to go into detail because you're not confident that you can.

. I care about avoiding a civil war.

Me too.
But i think intellectual honesty is probably a very important part of that effort.
Riverman2 · 61-69, M
@LordShadowfire what proof has anyone provided that people who suuport Trump are cultist. It's all just opinion. How the hell could I ever convince the left that they are wrong. I got more important stuff to do, like defrost the oven. Over and out.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Riverman2 I've seen plenty of proof. I'm not saying all people who support him are cultists, but there's a fair number of people who seem to worship him as some kind of god. If you want, I can provide links to articles on the subject, and I can probably find you some video. That's the difference between you and me.

But you've already drawn the conclusion that I'm worthless, so I doubt whether I'll hear from you again today.
