This is pretty funny.
On a more serious note though the Tories in the UK seem to be adopting some very American ideas while retaining the trappings of the old empire.

@Burnley123 How serious do you think these reactionaries are? Do you see it as mostly just rhetoric?
Because if they are serious the quiet part basically implies reconquering at least part of the old empire (or a new one) to make their rhetoric reality.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Well, the post above is a joke. Even the most culture-war-obsessed Tory voter is worried about the economy.
I think Truss and Kwateng and true believers in trickle-down economics. As for the Empire thing; it would be like Canada trying to have an empire. It's just not going to happen. We have been a subservient part of the American hegemony since the middle of WW2 and as a mid-sized nation-state with a smaller economy than Germany, the scope for starting wars is negligible. It would only be an issue if America elected someone like John Bolton. Then the Tories would back them in crazy wars.
Without that, it's just posturing.

@Burnley123 It is interesting you mentioned Canada.
Not saying the Tories are going to try this but in the 40s we could have had our own empire even while still being a dominion of the British Empire.
By 1945 we had the 2nd largest Air Force.
The 3rd largest navy and 1 million people in the military with a total population of 9 million people.
As a society we decided to stand down and go back to being who we are now, but if we had different people in power we could have like the Americans carved off pieces of the old european empires and nobody would have really been in a position to argue outside the Americans. So carving out a new empire while tagging along with the old one is a real possibility.
Just figured that is something you should be aware of from a historical point.
On the upside for that to work something would have to go really sideways to justify a military build up on that scale.

I'd be more worried about the 'woke' Italian government now the country has an extreme right wing political leader elected. Italy will now adopt the full WEF agenda of CBDC, social credit score, etc. Liz Truss might toe the WEF line at some point. Our central bank here is pushing hard to implement a CDBC.

Maybe it's all a cunning plan? To get themselves chucked out and leave Labour and possible coalition partners to deal with the mess. The next election might be a good one to lose. Might that have occurred to them?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@supersnipe Normally I'd see that as a conspiracy theory but I think it might possibly be true if some Tories who put Truss in power.

@CountScrofula The British economy is in the process of transitioning into Argentina or Greece.

It's definitely true that the alliances between NATO, the USA, the UK and the petrodollar client states has been an unshakable hegemonic force for evil and capitalism.
But only being pro petrodollar is and was safe for the uk.

@Burnley123 Ah, got it.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M

Burnley123 · 41-45, M
