@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout That didn't really happen. I mean, it looks like what happened was, in Texas, they were promised trips to Boston where they would be provided shelter and jobs by people who claimed to be from an immigrant rights group. This was false.

They were flown to Martha's Vineyard, and dropped off there with no contacts to meet them. So they walked three to the nearest town. People on the Vineyard, led by the churches there scrambled to find them shelter and food, and they were given places to sleep and food to eat. Schools were asked to send volunteers from high school Spanish classes so they could communicate

The problem is, the Vineyard is a summer vacation destination. It pretty much shuts down after Labor Day, and the population of Martha's Vineyard is poor and small. There's a hospital but it mostly handles checkups and first aid. If you're seriously ill, they stabilize you and ship you to the mainland. There also aren't any jobs there or any real housing, and you can't really expect people to live in a church basement. Plus, they don't have warm clothes and things and it gets cold on the Vineyard

So then the governor's office reached out to the communities on the island and the Venezuelan refugees to move the refugees to a place on Cape Cod, run by the national guard temporarily, until the people figured out what they wanted to do. And the refugees agreed to go, because it was a plan, at least, and they didn't want to live in church basements either.

So I don't see this as virtue signaling. I see this as a community that, after the governor of Florida decided to send 50 people to them without warning or reason, came together and found ways to help them, and then a Republican governor who realized that the people needed more help then the community could provide and stepped in, offering state resources temporarily until something permanent could be worked out.

I also see this as the work of another Republican governor, who decided to uproot 50 people who were in the US legally, not even in his state, by sending them across the country so he could score political points. And maybe I'm too dumb to realize how clever this is, but it seems really cruel and evil to me to play with people's lives or use other people as tools for your own personal advancement.

@ItsSteve Bullshit
llloydfred · 56-60, M
@ItsSteve wow u know there immigration status and there green card status. There are poorer class Americans that need more help than illegals,
ron122 · 41-45, M
@ItsSteve Did you make that up all by yourself?
ItsSteve · 46-50, M
@ron122 That they requested asylum comes from the news. Their trip to the Vineyard and what happened to them once they got there comes from their account and the account of island residents. The fact that the island is poor and unable to take care of them (poorest county in Mass!) comes from public statistics.

Where's all your stuff about how the island is all rich liberals come from? You know that just because someone vacations somewhere doesn't mean they live there, right?
carpediem · 61-69, M
@ItsSteve OMG what a fool
ItsSteve · 46-50, M
@carpediem Then share your wisdom. Tel me why its ok to hurt people who need help.

@ItsSteve They have homes there you bozo. It's well known the rich and famous have homes there.
ItsSteve · 46-50, M
@ron122 They have homes there, yes, but they're summer residents, for the most part. The population of Martha's Vineyard jumps from 17,000 people to 200,000 people in the summer. The people who actually live on Martha's Vineyard....who have jobs there, are active in their community, have local churches, aren't for the most part rich and famous. A lot of them work in the summer in service industries taking care of the visitors, then live off the money they made in the summer, unemployment, and food banks for the rest of the year. There's a reason the unemployment rate os around 3% in the summer and 17-25% the rest of the year.

So don't think that shipping a bunch of people there in the middle of September is affecting the rich and famous. They're not even there right now.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Yes, many of the bleeding hearts were eagerly trying to help the illegals "get out of Dodge. "
graphite · 61-69, M
@ItsSteve @ItsSteve Funny to listen to Democrats try to explain away their blatant racism and elitism after they get caught. "No! That's not how it went - here's the narrative we want pushed! See, we're still the good guys!"
ItsSteve · 46-50, M
@graphite So let me ask you. How did you want the island to respond. What was your best case scenario here? Do you know anything about the Vineyeard?
carpediem · 61-69, M
@ItsSteve How should Texas and Arizona respond when they're getting literally thousands of illegals through EACH DAY due to this administration's failure to uphold the law at the border?

Honestly... what a mess this biden administration has caused 🤨 Incredibly incompetent, or intentionally law breaking? Which is it?
graphite · 61-69, M
@carpediem Texas and Arizona should respond the way the Democrats are: Launch criminal investigations. Biden and Harris need to be indicted in both states for criminal negligence. They are causing this mayhem as they're busy enjoying cocktails in elite Democrat strongholds like, of all places, Martha's Vineyard.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@graphite I like this idea.
llloydfred · 56-60, M
@carpediem Send all the illegal aliens to all the sanctuary cities. There they can receive billions of dollars of combined aide. And the libs will wake-up saying " Hay Wait a minute, YOU democrat leaders are giving those illegals what we libs want to be Entitled for.
llloydfred · 56-60, M
@llloydfred With this illegal situations with the magic number millions, is how democrat leaders are going to play liberals, conservatives and independents out of the conversation. Here comes Bureaucracy with a brass band.
