The US Has Long Supported Taiwan's Independence...

...unil now. John Kirby actually admits it. The Xiden administration stands with the CCP.

Wake up America.

First the US has always recognized the "One China" policy since the end of WWII. We backed the nationalists who retreated to Formosa (Taiwan) after being swept off the mainland by the communists. We recognized the Nationalist Chinese on Taiwan as the legitimate government of all of China and held out until the Nixon administration in 1971 allowed the PRC to replace the Nationalist Chinese on the UN Security Council. This was part of the Nixon administration's opening up relations with China.

Since then we have supported the Taiwan Chinese militarily and economically while trying to maintain a schizoid policy of "One China" but not advocating either the Nationalist Chinese on Taiwan taking over all of China, or the PRC taking over Taiwan. (by the way Taiwan was never part of China until occupied by the Nationalists when they fled the mainland).

Taiwan sticks in the craw of the PRC because they have been so successful economically. That example is seen as a direct threat to the totalitarian PRC.

The US had no formal agreement for the defense of Taiwan yet we have always strongly supported them and left the impression that we would come to their aid militarily. We (the USA) have been trying to keep a foot in both camps without formally committing to anything. We have no formal defense agreement with Taiwan, yet we leave the impression that we will defend it in the hopes that the threat will be enough. It seems that we are nearing a time when the PRC wants to call our bluff.

When the US was overwhelmingly dominant militarily and economically we could get away with it. The fear that we might step in was enough to deter PRC aggression against Taiwan. (and the whole region) The waffling appearance of weakness on the part of our leadership increases the chances of a miscalculation that will lead to war.
@bowman81 I Served in Taiwan mid 70s…never heard of “ strategic ambiguity” until well after I left there and the service.
After reading earlier that CCP aircraft crossed into Taiwan’s airspace I see them pushing the envelope, pushing farther and farther into Taiwan’s airspace until there’s an aerial engagement, IMO, just what China will use an an excuse to unleash their military against the Island. And by I see this in the near future. I hope I’m wrong.
I’ve got a theory.

The dems absolutely plan on pushing a war to suspend elections.
They can’t cheat and they’re gunna be wiped out in November..
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout I could believe the dems would try something like that.

Once again Biden Administration abandons it's 'friends'.

What a bunch of cock smacks.
@Budwick Yep. We don't call Joe, "Beijing Biden" for nothing. Claimed to stand with Taiwan, but we all know he's Xi's poodle.

China has so much leverage over us since we farmed out all our manufacturing to them because industry is "bad for the environment!" We never had the Soviet Union do our manufacturing for us. Why China?
@graphite 1.4 billion reasons

@graphite Super cheap slave labor.

Contrary to what this a$$wipe says, we have always supported Taiwan's Independence. We AGREED to be their ally.

When this BS with Ukraine started, I knew that Biden would betray Ukraine, giving them too little too late, and at the same time I knew he would betray Taiwan in the same way.

Biden speaks with a forked tongue.

He may say we are committed to defending Taiwan, but the Pentagon, and the Progressive Socialists embedded there, are playing cozy with the Chinese, selling our honor down the river, and Biden knows it.

@sunsporter1649 Remember when Blinken's people tried to scold China in Alaska over human rights and the Chinese threw the Democrats' own talking points right back at them, about the US being "oppressive and racist"?
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout I don’t think they want to take that risk..
Our 40 or so year stance of “strategic ambiguity” was for all intents and purposes thrown out the window when Biden said we are committed to defending Taiwan. Mr Kirby failed to say we ARE NOT committed to defending Taiwan, regardless of his comments re: not support Taiwan being independent.
But it needs to be clarified as to what Pelosi’s intentions are and her purpose for visiting Taiwan.
@soar2newhighs Pelosi has her agenda, and the Biden administration acts as if it doesn't know what that is, nor does it seem to care - which is BS. None of this adds up. Lots of US dignitaries and politicians have been going to Taiwan. It's only an issue for China when Pelosi makes the trip. Why is that? Something more going on that we don't see.
@BizSuitStacy Just throwing this out there, but she is in line for the oval office. So as I’ve asked, what’s her purpose in going there? And I’m wondering now if it’s factual that she ““may” have flown on U. S. Government aircraft. If so, a dare to China? And let’s not forget..when she wanted to do a trip to Afghanistan, Trump denied her use of government aircraft. And Joe could not have told her not to go?
I agree with you…more to this than meets the eye.
@soar2newhighs Yep. It's not been made clear as to why Nancy insists on going.
China drew the line in the sand and it looks like Nancy crossed it. I don't think China will actually do anything. I mean...shoot down the plane carrying the SOTH? I guess we'll see.
There could be some genuine concerns raised by the timing of this. Seems this whole trip has exacerbated some issues in China, one being President Xi looking to an upcoming political victory, and his and the CCPs chiding of Nancy and the administration which if not acted on could cause loss of face…not a good thing for Xi. China has not forgotten Nancy’s trip to Tianemen Square…another jab at China. The PLA conducting military exercises, and here I make conjecture…any possible “ tough president” Biden going after Al Zawahiri, getting certain peoples’ attention? And yeah, Nancy came in to Taiwan on a Gov’t plane; so if this was viewed as a not popular move by Biden ( administration) why was she permitted to go…on again, a government aircraft? Smoke and mirrors?

@4meAndyou nancy is and has been in china's back pocket for a long time. for her to snub China and put us in danger of war, is inexcusable. We already know that w ehave an incompetent Pres and VP but that doesn't give her any right to go over their heads. and we all know that Biden is a buddy of China. something is going on. big time.
4meAndyou · F
@akindheart I hate her evil guts.

@4meAndyou me too. top of the list.

whoa...well that says it all.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Hey China paid good money to buy the Bidens. I wonder how much it would cost to buy them back.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@AbbeyRhode Oh I agree. I was just wondering how much it would cost. Kind of like asking a hooker what her fees are with no intention of ever using her services kind of curiosity.
AbbeyRhode · F
@hippyjoe1955 That's an appropriate analogy. 😄

@AbbeyRhode good point

Let's send @BizSuitStacy to China to let them know they got it all wrong!

@BizSuitStacy spare me your euphemism, it's a where the scared little boys take refuge when they can't use real words.
@Phoenix maybe if you finish those sardines, you'll find those words you're searching so hard for. Though you get an extra minnow for "euphemism."
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Phoenix your comment about man, lady is offensive. don't bring that into any discussion. it has nothing to do with the topic at hand, got it? that is discrimination at its finest.
Driver2 · M
Well they did give the Biden crime family over 30 million dollars

. A great tour of duty!

They never cared about Taiwan's independence. The US government only cares about fleecing the world for it's money.
@FenixGears You know anything about the base, Tainan, in Taiwan? Circa 70s.
