How is any shooting the gun's fault? Is the shooter not responsible for his actions?
@StrictSouthernHOH I tried shooting somebody once with a baseball bat, but it didn't work.

@LordShadowfire Yeah, the breach block on those baseball bats is kind of tricky sometime, just no clue... 🤪

@StrictSouthernHOH Thank you for your input.
Some estimates have suggested that the United States has more guns than people. Compared to other peer countries, basically what Americans have is lots and lots of guns, particularly handguns, and you have by far the weakest gun laws. Not surprisingly, you have huge gun problems. In the vast majority of gun massacres in the US a legally-obtained firearm was used. Earlier this month a gunman killed ten Black people in an attack on a supermarket in Buffalo, New York using an assault-style rifle. The reality of life in America, the big problem, is that people don’t have to jump through enough hurdles to get a gun.

Of course you are right, it's not the gun's fault, but a gun is a machine to kill people, and w/o access to that gun the school massacre would not have happened.
@StrictSouthernHOH Laws in the US against people murdering other people with a gun and for mass murdering of school children hasn't been a deterrent to prevent it from happening. Teens and adolescents shooting others has increased since Aug. 1, 1966 and so has the number of murders by adults along with the number of times we have heard the statement "Guns don't kill people, people do."

@helenS We don't have a gun problem. We have a disregard for human life and a mental health problem. Banning guns does nothing to stop shootings, but it does stop law abiding citizens from defending ourselves. Do you really want a world where only the criminals are armed?
@StrictSouthernHOH Oh, boy, here we go with this bullshit again. How are the bad guys going to get guns if their sources can no longer get guns? Even an illegally sold gun originally comes from a legal source.
StrictSouthernHOH · 46-50, M
@LordShadowfire You really think guns are not available illegally 🤣? You are living in an alternate reality if you think the millions of firearms and trillions of rounds of ammunition already out there can be confiscated.

@StrictSouthernHOH If it isn't the guns, but mental illness that is the problem, then you would agree that the US is by far the most mentally-ill nation on earth, by many times? And that gun owners are even more mentally ill than the general population?
StrictSouthernHOH · 46-50, M
@windinhishair I disagree that gun owners are more mentally ill than other people. What facts do you have to support this?
@StrictSouthernHOH Not necessarily gun owners, but what do you say to a guy who's got 200 guns, and none of them are antiques or otherwise collectors items?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@StrictSouthernHOH Do you agree that the US is the most mentally-ill nation on earth? It would have to be if the guns have nothing to do with it. And red states with more guns have more gun deaths (check the CDC for the year 2020 for gun deaths by state) per capita than states with fewer guns, so if it isn't the guns, those people must be even more mentally ill on average than the rest of the nation.
StrictSouthernHOH · 46-50, M
@LordShadowfire I would say nothing as long as they were obtained legally. including a background check .
@StrictSouthernHOH The kid in Texas acquired his legally. So did the kid in Buffalo.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@windinhishair No sensible American has any confidence in the CDC after the Covid fiasco. Texas is a red state and I am sure it has many more gun deaths than CA, IL and NY, which are all SUPER BLUE states.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@ProfessorPlum77 A majority of Americans believe in science, facts, and the CDC. Deniers never will.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@windinhishair And we see how believing Fauci, Birx, and the CDC worked out. 😳
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@ProfessorPlum77 Worked out well for most of those who believe in facts and science. The deniers died in far larger numbers and have much higher rates of long covid. Natural selection in action.
