Are We Smarter Than Squirrels?

I might need convincing. Squirrel is a real problem solver, he gets the job done! Man tries to hide the bird feeder, does squirrel give up and quit? No! Squirrel keeps trying until he solves the problem and gets the job done.

I'm voting for a squirrel next election!

On an unrelated note... Any tips on keeping a squirrel out of a back yard bird feeder?

Smarter, but not as determined -

I have a metal pole they have to climb - I coat it with Vaseline so they can't make it more than a third way up...

This just in from the Anti-Squirrel camp: They misplace up to 80% of the nuts they hide. They are tiny ADHD rodents on crack with bad memories.

As an insider and certified daily squirrel handmaid and feeder, I'd vote for one in a heartbeat. If Idyllwild can have a golden retriever for their mayor, can't we look into a few retired circus animals?

@Graylight do they actually misplace them or just hide wayyy many more than they need?
Graylight · 51-55, F
@GerOttman Good question. All I can tell you is I find peanuts in planters, on window sills, under bird baths, the oddest places.

Squirrels would be better than what we have now.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@HoraceGreenley but that's a horse..?
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@GerOttman True...but it's still an animal. I don't have a squirrel meme.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@HoraceGreenley I get to work on that, sounds like fertile ground!

My .25 cal pellet gun keeps squirrels out of bird feeders

@HoraceGreenley and somewhere a squirrel is trying to build a cross bow...

My mother traps the squirrels and drives them 5 miles away before releasing tem.

High velocity pellet gun.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@RosaMarie NOPE.
RosaMarie · 41-45, F
@Graylight I assure you it works fine.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@RosaMarie I'm sure it does. It's just I'd never kill something just for being that thing.

I have my doubts as to whether humans are more intelligent than ravens...

...or even crows...

@CorvusBlackthorne I guarantee you ravens are smarter than I am. Even the most mentally challenged bird could navigate laps around me.
