I'm not sure if you are familiar but this was hilarious.
Shapiro got critical questions and spat his dummy out. He called Andrew Neil (a household name in UK broadcasting and a Conservative) a leftist that nobody had ever heard of. It would be like me going on US TV and telling Rachael Maddow that she was a Conservative who nobody had ever heard of. Arrogant and clueless.
UK media culture leans to the centre-right but one of the features is that journalists ask all political figures taxing questions. It's in the journalistic ethic. Neil is very good at that and has professional standards, even if he is the chairman of the Spectator Magazine.
Shapiro did no research and completely humiliated himself. Even he later admitted he got this badly wrong.

Technically, he is intelligent up to a point. He was studying in advanced years throughout school.
His political practice is as an intelligent grifter. It's the art of gaming the system. He is a successful debater because he talks fast and is skilled at straw-manning his opponent's positions. His depth of analysis is negligible but that doesn't matter to his audience: It's just about 'winning'.
He also has a lack of emotional intelligence, partly due to geekiness but also down to the fact that he inhabits an echo chamber.
A white nerd attacking a black female rapper over sexual lyrics is a tragic look. Worse than that, he used it as a critique of 'feminism'. The projection was obvious even before he shared his lack of knowledge of female anatomy.
