My impression of the French election is the same as the last two US ones.

Is this the best we can find to lead our respective countries ???
Nimbus · M
@NCCindy 👍
tamgirl · 18-21, F
@NCCindy We need a third party in the US. Let the extremes right and laft have their demagogues and then the 50 % who can not stand either of the other 2 might vote someone more reasonable in.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@NCCindy This is a problem common to Western Developed nations. The people with the qualities you need for real leadership wont go into politics and those who will are either directly looking for power and total control or without a moral compass and wanting to feather their own nests.😷

I do. I have a French citizenship, through my Mother. Le Pen, all the way!!!
Tracos · 51-55, M
I'm actually relieved to see Macron is winning

He seems to have been a least-worst option for many French voters; but very many people did indeed care, and by no means only in France.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 You are accusing a major European democracy foreign to both you and me, of rigging its election.

It is a very serious accusation, and one for which there is no evidence.

The French had basically three choices: the retiring President and one each from a hard-Left and hard-Right, wing parties. I don't know if there were any others. All three had their ardent supporters in a country with quite deep political divisions, but of the valid votes cast (ballot slips not spoilt deliberately by voters in abstention), Macron happened to gain the most.

Simple as that.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@ArishMell Some worn out clown with a 38% approval rating got 58% of the votes. Yeah nothing to see here. France's elections are lily pure. Too Funny!
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 Approval ratings are merely spot surveys that about as useful and accurate a measure as exit-polls. They keep the speculative journalists and pundits busy, but it's the election itself that matters, and since President Macron heads a government that is neither yours nor mine, our personal views about his character and ability are not relevant. Mere insults mean even less.

What does matter is his Government's foreign policies that may affect our countries' relationships with France.

I don't know what the left-wing bloke wanted France to do but we all know Marinne Le Pen is opposite to Macron in being isolationist, apparently pro-Kremlin, and largely anti-NATO and anti-EU; which are internationally important matters.

I would prefer to see the conservative Le Pen win, just on general principle.
tamgirl · 18-21, F
Le Pen is not a conservitive. She is an authoritarian. Consevitives beleive in freedom, democracy, individual rights and free enterprize. Authoritarians beleive in conformity, elections are rigged if they do not win, the rights of the minority to rule over the majority and a corporate state that favors the few.
4meAndyou · F
@tamgirl In the United States, if your definition is correct...the Democrat Socialist Party are conservatives, and the Republicans believe in freedom, individual rights and free enterprise.
Oster1 · M
@Nimbus They must have Dominion machines, in France!
Yellow vest protests for near 2 years. Extreme lockdown measures and jab mandates.. but he’s way ahead in the polls?
Smells legit

Cierzo · M
Sadly it looks like Macron will win again. More Islam, less freedom, more elitism. This is what the French want. Or more accurately, the 'French'.

A million Le Pen votes disappeared from the tv screens as the votes were being shown….how does that happen? By magic?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@tamgirl Hmmmmmmm I guess you didnt see the video of the votes disappearing on live TV did ya? But call it BS, if that makes you feel good.
tamgirl · 18-21, F
@cherokeepatti and where can I see these disappering votes?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F

Yes, I care. But of course Macron will win, the beneficiary of a system which de Gaulle devised in order to prevent any outsider or radical having a chance.

Nimbus · M
@Elessar When will the result be known?

@Nimbus I've no idea. If it works like down here, tomorrow morning I guess.

Macron 'won'. He is a globalist after all and the globalists are not going to risk a free and open election. It was rigged for the last half dozen election as well.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
The one that doesn’t loose 😂
Nimbus · M
@Dlrannie But do you care? ;)
Dlrannie · 31-35, F

I want Le Pen to win but it's not even too close to call. not a lot of bright Voters what we have in the U.S except its been taking away from us the People.
