Very misleading. Of course it's not racist to require an ID to vote. However, the reason Republicans want the law is because there are many other factors that make it harder for certain races to get an ID. I'd compare this law to the Grandfather Clause law, which was only racist when taken in context.

@BohemianBabe Could you explain these "other factors"in detail?

@sunsporter1649 It's getting deep isn't it ?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Majorsite Been deep for decades
@DavidT8899 So for starters, most of these laws require an ID that white people are more likely to have, such as a driver's license. Black and brown people are less likely to have a car, meaning no driver's license. Getting an ID also requires locating things like a birth certificate and social security card, which requires money and time, which black and brown people are less likely to have. Then there's also the fact that minorities tend to move between states more, which makes it even harder to get an ID.

To be fair, most of these points can be made for seniors and poor white people too. But really, those aren't the people Republicans are trying to stop from voting. They're trying to stop people more likely to vote Democrat, which are non-white people.
@sunsporter1649 Notice how when challenged, I actually reply with points instead of just posting cartoons.
That's how I know you don't believe in your own ideas.

@DavidT8899 1. You need to get to a DMV office in order to get one, and DMV offices understandably generally are located where convenient for motorists. Minorities and the lower socio-economic groups are less likely to have cars, public transit most likely will require more time to get there on top of the normally excessive wait time, all of which is lost wages for the lower economic groups.

2. With the advent of the Real ID being like a passport, you have to provide birth certificates and other documentation in order to get a photo ID. This can be a big hassle for anyone who doesn't have access to a birth certificate -- luckily I finally found a copy of mine because the county I was born in had no record of it -- and an even bigger hassle for legal citizens in the groups described above.

That's for starters

@BohemianBabe One picture is worth a thousand words....
@sunsporter1649 And it allows you to not back up your arguments, which you know are wrong.

@BohemianBabe Stop trying to make excuses for something that most people think is fine, Voter I.D.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@sunsporter1649 Only when it is relevant.
@Majorsite Just because most people think it's fine, doesn't mean it's not racist. Most people thought slavery was fine.

I mean, you can keep naming places if you don't have any evidence. I can name places too. Austin, Texas.

@BohemianBabe
Of course it's not racist to require an ID to vote.

The reason EVERYONE would insist on voter ID would be to ensure a fair / honest election.

Why does the left always assume that non-whites are too lame to pass a test, not good enough to get a job, or too stupid to get an ID?
@Budwick You're strawmanning. I just gave you reasons why it's harder for non-white people to get an ID.
It's not that they're stupid, it's that getting an ID requires time and money. And because non-white people are more likely to be poor, they have less time and money than white people.
This is the point. Republicans want less people voting if those people are more likely to vote for Democrats.

@Budwick And they call Conservatives racist....
