Deliberate distraction/misinformation for my money.
Whilst theoretically independent, gas and oil extracted "in the UK" goes into the market, not to the UK, and the UK volume would make no discernable difference to the market price.
The clue is Farage (a.k.a. Big Energy and Putin's paid mouthpiece) is calling for a return to fracking. He's no altruist, there's no way on God's green Earth he would do that unless his backers were supportive.
Why then? Well,a debate around/increase in fracking distracts focus from greener, renewable initiatives and net zero, which really DO hurt Big Energy/Putin's Russia.
...smoke and mirrors.

Wow....seems like they never blame their own responsibilities and it's always anyone's fault. Blame Putin for something that is totally Opposite of interests.
If Putin passed away then it's Trump's Fault for Global Warming

First it was "blame Trump". Now it's "blame Putin". Once this crisis is over, Trump will again get the blame for all of the world's problems.

The idea that Putin help fund anti fracking groups is LAUGHABLE. Those groups in Lancashire didn't need any help from Putin they were unpopular from the word go due to lots of complicated local issues. The whole thing DISCREDITS itself by mentioning Nigel Fromage ( A toxic Trump supporter) and the Daily Mail on Sunday( only fit for toilet paper)

They must've looked long and hard [😆] to find an idiot like that.

@4meAndyou Only skimmed over the articles but the UK is a small country and quite densely populated, fracking was carried out too close to residential areas without regard for any damage that was being caused. Putin just happened to side with the right side, perhaps for the wrong reasons.
