Meghan McCain's recent departure from "The View" and her comments on her experiences there has made me realize something I never thought about.

While on Sean Hannity's show, Meghan spun a similar to story to what Dave Rubin has been saying for years, something along the lines of "I spent a significant amount of time around people who were at least nominally liberal and they weren't very nice to me, but my experiences around conservatives has been the total opposite." Listening to that made me realize that a great many times I've argued politics with people, they'll tell me that people of one belief are mean and nasty to them while people of another belief are welcoming and accepting. And now I'm thinking, does it really matter? If I were to meet every single person who agreed with my politics and they were jerks to me, and then I met every single person who is strongly opposed to my politics and they were really nice to me, would that change my opinion? Because it shouldn't, but at the same time, human nature might make it difficult to stick to convictions in a hypothetical situation like that.

Just because someone has good politics does not make them a good person.

I've met leftists with near identical politics to me who were just really bad people. I also have Conservative members of my extended family who are generous and civil.

I prefer to think of politics systemically, rather than a morality tale about individuals.

In my local Labour branch, there are liberals who are passive aggressive and make me feel disincluded. I thinks it's the same thing as happened to Meghan Mccain but because I have oppososite politics. All groups need a collective identity though and that also applies here.

@BlueMetalChick Fucking over bad people is one thing but do you take advantage of good people too?

Is suspect 'yes' would be the honest answer tbh.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Burnley123 I wouldn't say I take advantage of good people, no. But I also don't treat them the way they deserve to be. I'm far too quick cut someone off over something minor just to prove that I'm not reliant on anyone. It's toxic and counterproductive, and I try not to.

I also struggle with violent behavior. I've physically injured people before when I should not have.

@BlueMetalChick Maybe I was a bit harsh. I wish you well on your personal journey.
That's nice.

Megan sounds like a twit and she's on Hannity, lending her family's name to the idea that he's an actual conservative.

There are conservatives who support the social norms, like not lying or stealing, but Hannity is not one of them.

He's a Trumpist. Enough said.
You deal with people and at times there is an interaction involving your political leanings and theirs. Therefore I say this: 1.Respect others who lean politically different from you. 2. Agree to disagree. 3. Listen carefully to their point(s) of view. 4. Have facts and logic for your response(s) 5. Keep loyal to your beliefs to the best of your ability 6. If their argument is strong, at least look at its merits.

So the theme of that is:
Liberals for the most part aren’t nice, whereas Conservatives are ?

That would be interesting indeed … especially considering part of the ideology behind Liberals is supposedly ‘looking out for all interest groups’

@GlueGun ...ok? I'm not sure how that's relevant.
i was trying to hit a lighter note.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@GlueGun Oh lol I thought it was a reference to something that I wasn't getting.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
well that's it, a pleasant person will make you see them as human then you'll identify with them and you'll believe they are understandable. You'll believe you missed something so why shouldn't it be subject to change. It's not like anyone truly knows anything after all

A lot of the alt right pipeline actually depends on that. There is a lot of emphasis on not only being kind and welcoming, but in pointing out how unkind and intolerant liberals are as a way of isolating people from mixed opinions and drawing them more firmly into the comfortable echo chamber where anything too extreme is just a joke, until it's not.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@ViciDraco It reminds me of a very old episode of "Clear Blue Water" in which an extremist agenda manages to recruit Eve's best friend because they had chocolate chip cookies when all the other party promoters only had sugar cookies.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@BlueMetalChick haha. Chocolate has special power

Right or Left both sides are purposely flawed and equally incompetent.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@BlueMetalChick Wrong comparison. Equally incompetent. You gotta read it correctly ok dear. 🙂
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Zonuss So explain to me how those two positions are equally flawed. What's the middle ground, give cheap insulin to half the world's diabetics and let the other half die?

What about the debate between continuing illegal wars or ending them? Those two positions are not equally incompetent. One is right and the other is wrong. Same with the debate whether or not to legalize drugs, or homosexual marriages.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@BlueMetalChick Do you really believe that one party is corrupt and the other side is not. Really. Really. 🙄
