Looks like the voters aren't getting anything that they want from the government in Washington.-. How come America can't fire them?

dancingtongue · 80-89, M Best Comment
That is one of the advantages of the Parliamentary model of government: Parliament can take a vote of no confidence forcing immediate elections, or the Prime Minister can call for an early election if s/he feels it might result in a bigger majority. A third benefit is that it makes multi-party systems more valid since they frequently are needed in alliances to create the majority needed to form the executive government. Unfortunately the U.S. is stuck in a two-party gridlock and attempts to fire elected officials only result in $250 million ego trips like the recent Trumpian fiasco trying to recall the Governor of California.

Pissed off you can't get your "free everything for everybody".
@sunsporter1649 Good to know you think investing in Americans is bad.

We hire and fire politicians by our vote.
@Carla That is one of the disadvantages of the American system versus some other parliamentary systems though. Unless you live somewhere with a right to recall option otherwise politicians pretty much get a 4 year pass to do anything they want. How many other jobs out there are there where you boss can only fire you once every half decade.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I see that. But our system is our system and we are obliged to operate with in it.
@Carla There is some truth to that. But the American system started to stagnate when there was a change in the culture to believe the current system is some sacred cow that cannot be changed. The most success the US had in the past was when you guys were still experimenting with new ideas and didn't reject ideas outright because "not made here". We have much the same problem here too btw. In theory our MPs can force a non confidence vote but getting them to do it for anything other than self interest is another matter. Plus years ago we did the stupid thing of having our Governor General become an appointed position. Part of why I am disillusioned with electoral politics in the current systems is because change happens at a glacial pace and that just doesn't work anymore. And I think several nations need to start looking at whether a system developed in the 1700 and 1800s still makes sense.

We can - at the voting booth.

You should learn some stuff about the country you hate so much.

@Budwick okay. I'll finish writing each one before posting, and you Tell SW that's the new rules. It's DISHONEST to edit. No one should add things! That's lying! Super Conservative says!

@Stopmakingsense It's embarrassing when you get caught - isn't it?

It's OK Mutha - I didn't think highly of you beforehand.
Stopmakingsense · 56-60, F
@Budwick you can't be embarrassed for someone else.
That's not possible. Obviously you lie to me about me in public to make yourself look "better". I'll use the edit anytime I like. You should do that. Promote your lies freely. The app tells everyone where there's been an edit. It's not against the rules, it's part of the app.

I'm not sure what you mean by, not getting anything that they want from the govt.
Stopmakingsense · 56-60, F
@Muldoon obviously we're paying more not to do each one.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@Stopmakingsense There's always money for wars. Pointless foreign wars. War is more profitable than roads, education and a healthy population.
Stopmakingsense · 56-60, F
@Crazywaterspring not this time. The average driver pays an extra$300 per year to cover the extra potholes the US has because it comes in so low on infrastructure spending. That's the tip of the iceberg. Medical care is huge.

I thought they were giving it to us pretty good lol
You can, just vote them out next election.
