It is a requirement and contradiction of empire. Either the empire falls or you have to keep stealing other nations wealth to bankroll it. Been this way since Alexandre the great and probably before that.

@MarkPaul Lol. Clearly you don't. Sadly you buy the imperial propaganda. The secret is you are not supposed to believe your own bullshit.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow This idea of yours that primitive societies should have just been left that way would be laughable if it wasn't so elitist and what I call bureaucratic-radical.

As a veteran I wanted this 20 year engagement involving our military to end. So yesterday at 3:29PM Eastern time the last C-17 lifted off and supposedly symbolized our leaving Afghanistan, the military involvement ended.
The phrase, “Laser focus over the horizon” might be the pre cursor to our return there. I hope to God that does not happen.

@soar2newhighs No need. Over the horizon drone strikes like what the US is doing in at least 7 other countries will likely be the new normal.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow What it means relating to Afghanistan, who knows, but it has a certain potential that I see as negative, not positive, albeit the new normal.

@soar2newhighs I am sure it will mean more suffering and death for Afghans but Americans won't care because only Americans count to the majority. The fact the bombing killed almost 200 Afghans and the only ones worthy of even a mention here are the 13 US service people. And everyone assumes it was all about Americans. Even though it was more local politics and Americans got in the way of the power struggle. Sounds callous but those 13 were "collateral damage" this time instead of civilians.

We always end up settling our difference through negotiations. Unfortunately, we may never understand that.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
We could have settled this faster with PVP
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Doomflower Now, you're talking. You remember this the next time you are in a formal advisory role.

Hi Sweetie! How is everything today?

War is never worth it😔
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@OogieBoogie For war to be a successful strategy, warring societies need to be willing to literally fight to the death. In the past, societies were willing to do that and to the "victors went the spoils." Modern day societies are not willing to do that; they have the resources but they don't have the stamina or the attention span.

@MarkPaul Dude... You really don't know your history very well, or even how programmed patriotism works.
Conscription doesn't give a choice man.
And if your country enforced it now... You wouldnt have a choice either.

@OogieBoogie Oh, I understand world history alright. I'm just not inclined to sprinkle it with modern day sensibilities on historic events that each prior generation did not have access to. I know it's fun and easy to chastise those previous generations throughout history for their barbaric decisions. I suspect your decisions won't measure up to people who are critical of you from their seats of looking back on these times.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
That is a question for future generations.
Is war ever worth it? How would life be different today if there never was a war in the past? Would we still be tribal and archaic? A lot of innovation and technology arose out of wartime competition. Would they still be inevitable without it? Would they come slower, or faster?
