If its wrong for Americans to call the US "their land" since it was stolen from the Natives, does that mean Mexico doesnt belong to Spanish people?

Since they stole it from the Aztecs who owned it long before the current day Mexican people ever did?
SW-User
This is another meaningless argument based on victimhood and division. Name one country that didn’t “steal” land that’s how nations are formed through fight and conquer its history and you people like to twist it

Are you under the impression that the majority of the Mexican population is genetically indistinguishable from the majority of the Spanish population?
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
Mexico doesn’t belong to Spanish people. Spain does..
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
Descendants of Aztecs own Mexico now so 🤷‍♂️
Viper · M
Mexico doesn't belong to the Spanish people, I'm pretty sure Spain would fully agree with that...

Your argument is pretty bad...

That being said, it doesn't matter who owned a land, it matters about whom controls it now. Possession is 9/10 of the law.
MickRogers · 26-30, M
@Viper My argument is only as "bad" as the same argument that is made to suggest indigenous people still own the Americas.
Viper · M
@MickRogers Nope yours is worse because Spain literally has zero claim to modern Mexico... so that's even less accurate.

It's like saying the USA does not belong to the British people because they got it from Native American...

Well no duh the USA doesn't belong to the British, even the British don't claim to control the USA.

It's clearly a different argument, because you used Spain instead of Mexican.

I guess the real bleeding a-holes could go back to the beginning of time to arbitrate wars with resultant land grabs. Eastern Europe would be interesting...🤣.

It would mean that the Hittites, (Turkey), owns Iran...the Macedonians, (Balkans), also own Iran, and own Greece, Egypt, and Afghanistan, Pakistan, and northern India.

So many people have fought over so many different lands, and so much land has had so many different "owners" it makes my head spin.

The north American continent has the distinction of having been conquered by various tribes with no written records since man first traveled here, so we can pretend that the various tribes that exist today are the only ones which ever existed.

I think we do have to admit that conquered people need to accept that they lost the wars.
Driver2 · M
How do we know the ‘native’ people didn’t take it from someone else long ago?
It’s not like they weren’t fighting eachother when the first Europeans landed.
They were
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@Driver2 Who originally owned all the land on earth?
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
Considering that’s how every single modern day country was founded why doesn’t that same statement apply to every other country and why are we focusing on America?
MiserableAtBest · 22-25, F
Mexico doesn’t belong to Spanish people, I think you might be confusing Spanish with Hispanic
MickRogers · 26-30, M
@MiserableAtBest They speak the Spanish language for a reason.
Graylight · 51-55, F
Why don't we just stop "claiming" any land? Any landlord in his right mind would have us all evicted.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
In the scale of things I think its Hubris for humans to claim the Planet as theirs. The game aint over yet..
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
People have been conquering other people and taking their land for all of recorded history. It stands to reason that they were doing the same before recorded time. Therefore nobody knows who first settled a piece of land or when. This has been the nature of mankind form the beginning, I suppose.
HannahSky · F
You seem confused about 'Spanish'
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
What? That doesn’t even compare
MickRogers · 26-30, M
@TurtlePink How so?

Natives were the original inhabitants of America just like the Aztecs were the original inhabitants of Mexico. And Cortez slaughtered a great number of them while bringing the Spanish language to Mexico.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@MickRogers every country was founded the same way America was but you choose to focus on America and not apply that same statement to every other country.......
Stopmakingsense · 56-60, F
Local sovereignty isn't that hard to grasp.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
How can anyone own land. No one created it.
Basically that’s colonialism; European countries stole the Americas, Australia and various other lands.
empanadas · 31-35, M
Sadly there are Mexicans who don't even speak Spanish. They only speak their native language of Nahuatl. They are sometimes not even referred as Mexican. Also, alot of the illegals crossing the border are those people. The land of Mexico is not the Spanish people. Since they got their independence from Spain
In September 16, 1810.
MickRogers · 26-30, M
@empanadas And yet, the majority still speak Spanish. Weird how they want to separate themselves from something they already adhere to.
@MickRogers Who told you that was wrong?
