I have something i want to share with the folks on SW who are feeling unsure or nervous about getting their COVID vaccine.
It's an episode of the podcast Oh No! Ross and Carrie and it features a woman who has never had a vaccination in her life (and is very nervous about getting the COVID vaccine) and Dr. Paul Offit who is an expert in vaccines and viruses.
Dr. Offit does a great job of explaining what is and is not true about this virus and the associated vaccines without shying away from the mistakes that have been made in the past. I think anyone can get a lot out of it, even if you're not vaccine hesitant.
I think peoples minds are made up at this point . My understanding is that Trump supporters don’t want it bc Orange didn’t tell them to and Black people are suspicious of government shots .
There are a small minority of people who are anti-vaxxers and there is nothing that will convince them but there are still people who are on the fence. Also a minority in percentage but in numbers still many.
@AthrillatheHunt Trump is very pro vacation. It was because of him and his team's effort and insistence that we had the vaccine available so quickly. There are anti vaxxers on both ends of the political spectrum.
I don't think Trump gets any credit for anything to do with COVID. He downplayed it long after it became clear that it was a very bad situation, encouraged his supporters to flout medical guidelines and then snuck off to get his vaccine in secret. Oh, and Trump was a big fan of the "vaccines cause autism" nonsense.
@JoePourMan you need to check your facts. A black researcher at NIH is behind the mRNA technology, Pfizer amused no federal funds to pursue their vaccine, it has yet to be proved that "operation warp speed," had anything to do with speeding up, or helping get vaccine into anyone's arms. The federal administration did so much damage to scientific credibility and acceptance of the evidence or the virus and by extension the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.
@Pikachu I don't care if you ignore the facts, or who you want to give credit to, but it's because of operation Warp Speed that we had the vaccines available in record time, and I'm grateful for that.
The fact is that Trump did the bare minimum and aside from coming up with a silly name for accelerated vaccination research and distribution he contributed nothing. Taking credit for something he actively sabotaged is just his style but thinking people shouldn't let it fool them.
@AthrillatheHunt As US president, he was entitled to be in the first vaccinated group. What's disgusting is how he hasn't publicized that, so his cult thinks the vaccine is more dangerous than the disease.
Even though the virus originated in China, it came to the US from Europe, but it's not like Mango Mussolini would have considered banning flights from countries with white people.
@AthrillatheHunt The people who refuse to wear masks and are refusing to be vaccinated are overwhelmingly Trump supporters. If he'd pushed both of those from the beginning, the country would be in much better shape. Yes, I find Mango Mussolini disgusting.
