Why are there so long queues in america to vote ?

they show endless queues here in some places in america... what is so hard to organize this better ?
It isn't hard, but there are issues

• the pandemic created a need for distancing which probably reduced the number of voting stations within a given polling place, as well as the number of ppl allowed in at any time

• Republicans have been so worried about the poor voting that they have done things like get rid of many polling places so that people need to go to places which are inconvenient to them AND this artificially increases the crowds there

• Some polling places may have NOT prepared properly because of the huge turnout (they should have realized this when the primary elections had problems due to the huge number of people voting).

• That huge turnout is unfortunately NOT typical of America...so polling places are often used to about half the number of voters that we had, before closing of polling places.

If Republicans wanted to solve this, they would, but they can't stay in power with free & open elections.
The long lines that you saw...were for only the voters in states that "vote in person." A lot of states are completely, "vote by mail." You are mailed a ballot, if you are over 18 and have registered to vote. So, you fill out your ballot and mail it in on time to be counted on election day.

@theexciting1 In theory, that is how it works. But this last election, Postmaster DeJoy had sorting machines and other equipment destroyed and changed overtime and other rules to prevent ballots from being delivered on time so they would not be counted. The US mail is still far slower right now than it was before the election.

@theexciting1 Not true. We had early and mail voting here in New York, yet we also had long lines. My poll site had a line around the block.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@RedBaron And Texas specified there could only be one polling place per county. That didn't work so well in Harris County, where there are millions of people.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
I've never waited more than three or four minutes to vote in my town.
@GerOttman sounds even more problematic if in some places people can vote easier then in others
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@BlackBlossom I live in a very small suburban town. I can see where those in a large city with higher population density might have a longer wait. I would really like to see a secure app based voting system in place more sooner than later.
@BlackBlossom In Oregon, it has been "only vote by mail" for many years. The pandemic made many states try it for a first time which created chaos.

In the UK we dont have it at all. You have to walk two or three blocks to a polling station and once there, it takes two minutes.

It must be deliberate in America to suppress the vote.

@Burnley123 Yes I know as I’m a Brit 🙂😂😂
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Dlrannie I didnt know lol.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 No reason for you to have known 😂😂🙂

Some of this is just poor planning, but many states with Republican governments will make it as difficult as possible for minorities to vote, believing that many of those people will vote Democratic. Long lines in those locations is deliberately planned for as a tactic to depress the vote, hoping many people will give up when they see the long queues.

@Ozuye502 Did your grandfather vote after passing in 2008? If not, no voter fraud occurred.
RedBaron · M
@windinhishair But I live in New York, which is as blue as it gets, and we had lines around the block.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@RedBaron That's true. Many polling places in New York had hours long waits to vote.

Voter suppression.

I voted this morning here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; it took me an hour from when I pulled up and parked to when I drove away. I had to stand in line outside for about 45 minutes, and several minutes more once inside to have my registration checked and to actually vote. I was voter number 150. There were 50 or 60 voters standing in line when I left the polling place. This was the first presidential election in which I voted since moving here three years ago. When I voted (at the same location) in 2018, there were only a few people voting, and I was in and out in just a few minutes.

@Byron8by7 Thank you for voting.

They have to wait until all the beloved dead people vote first
luctoretemergo · 61-69, M
Agreed - noone is talking about it - they'll just blame it on Trump(I'm not a Trump guy btw)....the states and the Federal Govt (ie we the people) have had endless opportunities to fix this - the election process....we should bother our leaders about this, but now, we're too busy w/global warming, imigrants, BLM, etc...issues that get largely forgotten anyway. The machines are different, the rules are different state to state. It's rediculous!....but again, noone cares...and when the election becomes this giant debacle...really we have noone to blame but ourselves. Ok, I feel better now.

Eh it’s what happens when you let government run anything you just get results that are stupidly expensive and that suck
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Ozuye502 That is really not it.
Ozuye502 · 36-40, M
@Burnley123 eh but it’s true with everything else
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Why has the current president already threaten legal action for those mail in votes only in ONE state at the end of today's poles in that state?

They don't want it to be organized
MrAboo · 36-40, M
There’s early voting but not every one takes the chance to avoid the lines
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MrAboo In my area, the long lines were for early voting as a voter suppression tactic to suppress the vote.
RedBaron · M
@windinhishair Then how do you explain lines around the block for early voting in NYC? Not everything is about voter suppression nor about where you live.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@RedBaron Some long lines happen in every election. This election was unusual and without precedent, resulting in long lines in some locations that do not typically experience them. Long lines and insufficient polling locations is a tactic routinely used in Republican states to suppress poor and minority voters

The people think they are queuing up to by guns/hamburgers?
romell · 51-55, M
Intent makes plans easy or difficult..
TjNewton · M
Its probably those dumbfuck trump supporters waiting for buses to take them home after dipshit left them stranded
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@TjNewton Or waiting for a Biden bus they can follow because they can't find their way home.
TjNewton · M
@windinhishair 🙂👍
