I’ve never waited more than a few minutes.

@jackson55 isnt it worrying that there are such big differences in how easy it is to vote ? everyone should have the same opportunity to vote if you want it to be legitimate
Graylight · 51-55, F
By and large. voting in the US is a painless procedure. But we mess with the process as much as possible trying to gerrymander, suppress voting, give one side or the other an edge, reinvent the process, you name it. You're probably seeing the worst instances - most of us cast a ballot in person or in the mail and it's all finished.

I think it would be a lot simpler if Americans didnt have to vote for their leaders and representatives at all. Based on recent results they clearly arent up to it.. So why not select 300 million university graduates, based on proportion of the global population, drawn by secret ballot to vote for them..It would be no trouble at all...😷

Yes, there will be some inflation but that can be tempered by lower taxes for lower and middle income earners offset by higher taxes on higher incomes.
A higher minimum wage and true universal health care (I prefer a Canadian-style single payer system) would also offset the pain of inflation for lower and middle income earners.
Not necessarily.
A boost in military spending will help re-build a faltering industrial base and those workers will retain those skills as industry re-emerges when they move to new jobs.
Another reason I backed Dick Gephardt for his presidential run in 2004 was he wanted a global minimum wage. It would vary from country to country but membership in the WTO would be conditioned on it.
“We need to stop the human exploitation that is going on in this world,” Gephardt told a group of Iowa Democrats back in 2004.
“I’ve been in the villages.... The [manufacturing] plants are as good as anything in the United States. But the people live on the ground. They live in the cardboard boxes that bring the products back to the United States.... They live in worse conditions than most animals do in Iowa.”

Second, its going to take many years to bring all those industires and skills back home.
Not necessarily.

@beckyromero I completely agree about the exploitation and Chinas human right record.. But America has done nothing about it up to now, nor will they.. But more importantly that wont pay back one cent of the international debt. Nor will boosting mitiary spending. You need to make stuff other people outside the country will pay for in a currancy other than US$ or in exchange for some of the $ you already owe them.. Then pay your workers a wage., This is not an easily solved problem.😷

why only 2 parties
why majority rule and the devil take the rest
why so much voter suppression on every level
why so little civic health
why so little democracy in the workplace?
why so little democracy in SCHOOLS
Why so little democracy on the local level
why does force substitute for so much democracy
why is it ok to perish in every way that counts cause no one thinks you should work for THEM?
Why is money created out of thin air for the uber rich ONLY?
Why can unwanted people be tortured out of existance?

Well hooray for you, in your small, barely populated, homogeneous country the size and scope of one of our 50 states. Let us know when you get to a diverse population of 330 million, scattered over a geographical area 50 times the size of your country. If its still superior to the American way, make a point about it then.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@CopperCicada Yeah I saw your updates. Could be fucked up. I mean, we are in the middle of a pandemic and that is screwing everything up.
I think people are high strung and worried and doing a lot of early voting. We may not be equipped to handle all that early voting.
Of course there are "problems". There's always problems.
But are those problems enough to call into question the legitimacy of the election?
I guess we will see soon enough....

@CopperCicada Hm ok. I think it will be fine as long as whomever wins, wins decisively. If it's a year 2000, recount the vote thing, that could get bad....nobody really cared in 2000, that's clearly not true in 2020.

Really depends on where you live and how much voter suppression is going on. Where I am, we can vote early many different ways.. It's not a problem.
NoodleDoodle · 22-25, F
@HannahSky that makes it even worse doesnt it.. if you only surpress certain voters...
HannahSky · F
@NoodleDoodle I don't lol but certain political parties do and it's wrong. There's lots being done to address it but it's a political issue.
