Sunak has constantly leaked more extreme versions of his cutbacks so that when he announces the actual policy, people are relieved cos its not as bad as expected.

Winding down the furlough scheme gradually makes sense hypothetically. Problem is they are reducing it just as the second wave is hitting.

If we had proper track and trace and if numbers were going down i would support this. However, we don't so the economy will stay depressed and unemployment will hit because business subsidies are reduced at a time when many businesses still dont have incomes.

The uk government once again 8s reactive not proactive and the people will pay the cost.

@gol979 Right now millions of employers are sending letters of 'Thanks for your service but...' letters.
Knowing they can 'mothball' their business due to government loan.
Millions of working folk are applying for Universal Credit, knowing that even if they apply today chances are it'll be a month before they'll find out if they qualify.

@gol979 You are looking at the WRONG CONSPIRACY here!

The idea that a CONSERVATIVE government would shut down the economy, end capitalist production and destroy profits just to control people is ridiculous.

They have acted in bad faith but for different reasons. They prioritise opening up the economy early over saving lives. Granted, this is counterproductive in its owm terms and short sighted but nonetheless, their motives are clear. They also outsourced track and trace to the private sector, with disasterous results.

For a conspiracy to be plausible, it needs to understand thd motives of those in power (profit, not control for its own sake). There is no explanation for why such a pro business government would act against capitalist interests, unless they absolutely had to.

@Burnley123 all rubbish but you keep on collaborating. Gets real tedious debating the borg, who's minds have been infected by the parasite class.

You're the bourgeois. No wonder you're cheering on a working class (not just the working class) mass cull. Cheering on tighter mass surveillance. Cheering on biblical famine. Cheering on the genocide of the elderly.

So what would be your solution?

@Picklebobble2 just because the government are stupid doesn't mean the people have to be.
There is still no shortage of work, all the companies that are still running are short of workers because some of their staff are self isolating or staying out on furlogh, it is becoming a problem for many companies.

It's nothing like "shutting the stable door....." the virus was here in December of last year, the risks were obvious to all by May, yet people still got on planes for the express purpose catching covid and bringing it back here, they didn't need a holiday they'd been sitting at home doing nothing but buying toilet paper for 6 weeks!

@deeply But most of us didn't fly anywhere. Most of us aren't people who flew into and out of Wuhan in China. Identified as THE hotspot for the outbreak.
Most of us have adhered to the 'rules' the government told us to follow. Not matter how bloody silly they are !
eg: Don't meet up with your neighbours but go to restaurants etc.
Most of us were doing our jobs diligently and responsibly.
Most of us were and are law abiding.

What more do you want people to do ?
At what point do you hold government responsible for it's failures ?
At what point do you jail the morons having parties and such ?
How many Teachers or kids is it acceptable to lose IF the guidelines on the kids return to school fails ?

@Picklebobble2 here's what I want people to do, follow the rules that will slow the spread and ignore the allowances that are made in a desperate attempt to boost the economy the difference between the two is blindingly obvious, unfortunately some people are selfish.
It's no good blaming the government, they set nothing more than a limit, we don't need to take everything to their limit, we can set our own.
I like you, but your grumbly posts are ruining my lunch breaks.
