RNC Speakers: A Brief Timeline

2012: “Huh, Clint Eastwood’s yelling at a chair, that’s weird.”

2016: “Oof, they’re letting Joe Arpaio talk? This won’t end well.”

2020: “Live from their palatial mansion, it’s the couple who pointed loaded guns at an unarmed crowd!”

2020: Live from Jerusalem, it is the Secretary of State breaking the Hatch Act.

2020: Hey, we have some token blacks here to prove our diversity.

2020: And now for one of our demented QAnon true believers! Oh wait, she can't speak tonight--she retweeted anti-Semitic tropes this morning. You can't do that the day you speak. Next week, no problem!

@windinhishair Yeah and the other person who was removed from the speakers list was Falwell Jr.

There were plenty of "what just happened" moments, but I think the opening is real worthy of note. The very opening statement was from a "preacher" from a Las Vegas "church", who started out by offering thoughts and prayers to Jacob Blake and his family in Wisconsin, when the intended crowd would have rather seen him lynched.

@Northwest Hollow thoughts and prayers from a group wanting to preserve White America.
It's an ugly progression to be sure, but even if Trump loses and never becomes a permanent dictator, this Convention will be historic.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MistyCee It is reminiscent of the 1992 Republican Convention, with Pat Buchanan giving his naziesque cultural war speech. It was horrifying, but it helped set the stage for what we see today.
@windinhishair I think I'd repressed that memory, but you're right, the fascism thing has matured.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MistyCee It was followed up by Newt Gingrich's Contract On America in 1994, and the fascist elements have continued to proliferate ever since, with a big assist from right wing hate radio and Fox "News".

What is boils down to, is a parade of people, who want to convince you that the guy they're talking about is not the guy who's been in the white house for the past four years. It's a con job.

2020: "Half of our speakers are related to the president."

@SW-User Hi there, random asshole who I’ve never spoken to until literally just now. Nice of you to start yelling at strangers, I guess. Enjoy the block!
