@Theseus Does that mean that Republicans have freed folks to starve, remain uneducated and homeless ? Because they’re the ones who want more babies born while they cut social programs, access to affordable education or healthcare. But they’re all for more prisons. That’s an acceptable GOP way for the government to take care of people in the 21st century.

@bijouxbroussard Repugnicans, while I seldom agree with them about, well, pretty much anything, HAVE freed many classes of people over the years. The first ones freed were, of course, AA slaves. After that came the many who were slavishly dependent on government, and who now are participating members of society.
If that sounds heartless to you, consider which is worse; a drug pusher who will do everything in his/her power to keep you supplied in your fix of choice (for a price [or vote]), or an addiction counselor who liberates you from the slavery of addiction.
When you can answer that question honestly, you'll begin to understand the true evil of leftist ideology. Leftists do not want to "help" the poor, the uneducated, etc. If they did they'd develop programs designed to empower those in need to provide for themselves. No, leftists want to CONTROL them, and to force everyone else to pay for their perverted vision of "help."

@Theseus I don’t agree with you about that, and neither do today’s white supremacists. If they did, they wouldn’t have joined the GOP in droves. After all, they think they’re entitled, because they think in terms of MAWA, not MAGA (Make America White Again); plus they have Trump’s ear in that regard. And it’s part of what Southern Strategy managed to accomplish. The thing about the Democratic Party that you’ve forgotten is that it still contains the full spectrum in terms of ideology: liberals, moderates and some conservatives, even. The Republicans ran off their few liberals and many of their moderates have left as well. So the Democrats represent more people and ideas than can be pigeonholed. The left is who’s most vocally fighting Trump at present because of their feeling about immigrants and women’s reproductive rights, which the Republicans are actively trying to restrict. You know, “smaller government—small enough to fit in a woman’s uterus”. 😡

@StrictSouthernHOH I want to know what disastrous years those were—other than the fact that a black man was president. I’m sure to folks like Trump (and hey, possibly you, if you’re like some Southerners) that was his main idea of a disaster right there. Obama got us out of a recession and lowered the unemployment rate—while having to deal with a racist GOP obstructing him at every turn. All Trump did was maintain that trajectory, and you can look it up. That’s respectable enough, but Trump is such an angry racist, especially where Obama’s concerned that he’s had to either take undeserved credit or destroy anything involving him.

@bijouxbroussard Those years were Obama's presidency. The number of people on food stamps increased by 10 million. The national debt doubled. 2% economic growth was considered strong. The DJIA is up over 30% under Tump,about double the Dow's performance under Obama. The prosperity under Trump dwarfs that under Obama.
