No one party is better than the other, though both are dealing internally with some significant issues right now.
It's more a matter of general principle and belief. Traditionally, the Republicans stand for less federal government interference and stronger states' rights, but they also cater to the wealthier of the nation and have been known to fund military endeavors while cutting social programs and education.
Democrats rely on social programs for those who need them, traditionally more concerned with the least of the nation and communal responsibility.
But that's just my take on it. For a comparison that's easy to follow, try this link: https://www.diffen.com/difference/Democrat_vs_Republican
This is an outsider's opinion, but I believe that the idea that only one side may be right is the indicator of a deeper flaw within your society. Both sides represent the interests of different parts of the populace - both of which is arguably "right".
I would argue that one ahould decide the morality of a situation for one's self before relying on partisanism to guide one's thinking.
I realise I may be inviting a lot of flak by saying this.
@Jouskan47 I'm sure you think you were being almost prophetic but your summary was really rather shallow. You could be describing any allegedly free people. Not everyone is a puppet whose strings are pulled by fear and or hate.
The best thing in my opinion would be election reform. These political parties should not hold so much power over the elections themselves, as they presently do. That said, what is a republican anymore? The party had an identity once. Now it just kind of lulls around trying to do the opposite of whatever Democrats do. And he Democrats aren't doing a particularly good job, but at least they're trying. When they had majorities across the board, they actually acted, even if insufficiently. The GOP hasn't really managed it.
When voting, candidates should be judged individually on their own merits. The same applies to ballot questions. Sure it takes a little bit of time to research and vote knowledgebly however voting is a right to be taken seriously.
