Should a true Artificial Intelligence be considered a person? Like Data from Star Trek or The Vision from the Avengers?

It's a great question.

The Bladerunner movies express this dilemma better thematically than I can put into words.

What is human? Is it a biologically identifiable mammal or an entity with developed sentient intelligence? I would say that it is both. However, if A.I. is not identified as a human, they should be respected as something else; not human, animal or machine.

I think the question isn't, "Are they a person", but that whatever they are do they deserve the same rights as human.

We don't give those same rights to animals, but perhaps if a lifeform, stood up and clearly asked for them, we might reconsider.

No because they aren't.
The second you do you negate what it means/is t be human

@Picklebobble2 What DOES it mean?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Quizzical Well not being automated by design for one thing
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
Not unless they're sentient.

@GeistInTheMachine Isn't that the whole point of AI though; that it is machine sentience?

Or Zippy off of the kids show Rainbow.
If they are like them then yes
Quizzical · 46-50, M
